Reason: Merged with THE Paris Hilton Thread.
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

Yeah man I hate it when these "mainstream" news outlets post all these stories about war and other countries and stuff. They need to stick to what's really important.

Can't expect anything serious from CNN anyway. So having Paris there is just the level of news that you can expect from them.

Paris Hilton needs to lose weight! link
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Sarah Silverman', 'N')o one else is going to tell you this, because no one else cares about you the way I do. You seriously need to lose weight. OK, it's bad. You're like bigger than the fat Olsen twin. I can't even see the bones in your back. It's gross. I'm worried about you. You're clearly eating your feelings. I remember the first time I heard your single "Stars Are Blind", and I thought, "Wow. This really sounds like a fat person is singing it."

Are they, EJ? Maybe they are just a well connected, pretty, empty bunch of vain and silly nothings. They stumble out of bed in a haze to reach for their morning coffee and tabloids to see what is said about them. They scream and get their blood flowing to face the day before their meds kick in by reading what is said about them. So why does this work: they are attractive, and in the spotlight, good enough. Plenty of vain attractive people would kill to take their place. Why? Good question. Strange world. It has long since been common knowledge that celebrity is a trap, but people would rather die than face life just seeing what their own internal development might bring without society giving them the fish to reward their trained-seal act.

Ok, ok, would that be a fair amount of animosity or more pity for people who are stupid enough to take the bait? One reason I bring this up is that the poor are equally condemned by hatred as the rich are by vanity. The poor and unknown who waste their time and energy hating the rich are likewise accomplishing nothing with that time and effort.

Do you think that a society an income distribution between lower, middle and upper class of say 6:88:6 would work? I know that the distribution is continuous and that it is somewhat arbitrary, but can we produce a society that is predominantly middle class and stable. Right now we see the rich taking off at light speed while most of the middle class is getting poorer and the ranks of the effectively poor (underemployed, underinsured, uninsured) is growing. What is the right mix and how do we make it happen?
Is that why you bring this up? income distribution? We all have our heros, EJ. You know who mine is? Henry Fielding, the author of Tom Jones. I named my son for him. English society had enormous income disparities, so what. I couldn't care less. A vibrant culture is what matters, not this crap about income equality. Screw that, it was never an impetus to anything but bloodshed and strife. Envy and hatred comes from such invidious ideology. We are supposed to want natural arrangements here in peakoil.com. Well, an arrangement where secret police enforce "equality" aint natural. Give me Henry Fielding.

Celebrities wouldn't be rich and famous if no one read Entertainment Weekly or watched Access Tonight.

The mob demands celebrities, the mob gets celebrities.

There is no right mix. People are different and have different abilities to produce goods. Society becomes wealthier if everyone's individual abilities are used to their fullest. Income redistribution hurts everyone, the poor the hardest.

Free Paris! Judge slaps her back in the slammer

Unread postby Zardoz » Fri 08 Jun 2007, 22:08:38

Enough of this end-of-civilization-as-we-know-it stuff. Let's get into something that really matters:

Judge orders Paris Hilton back to jail - Weeping heiress screams ‘It’s not right!’ as she’s taken from court

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'P')aris Hilton was sent screaming and crying back to jail Friday after a judge ruled that she must serve out her sentence behind bars rather than in the comfort of her Hollywood Hills home.

“It’s not right!” shouted Hilton, who violated her probation in a reckless driving case. “Mom!” she cried out to her mother.

The 26-year-old hotel heiress was taken handcuffed from her home in a black-and-white police car, paparazzi sprinting in pursuit and helicopters broadcasting live from above. She entered the courtroom disheveled and weeping, hair askew, without makeup, wearing a fuzzy gray sweat shirt over slacks.

Au contraire, kiddo. It's "right". It's so very, very right.

Poo Bah,

There is an old saying in Show Business "Any publicity is good publicity".

It's better for the public to know about you and your crazy antics than to be indifferent.

In the celebrity world it's better to be hated than to be ignored all together.

Furthermore, it's better to be hated by 90% of the people, but be totally loved by 10% of the people, because those 10% will be movie tickets, perfume, and whatever other trashy products have the celebrities name on it.

This is just one more gimmick to give Paris the publicity she needs to feed her carreer.
