$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Tyler_JC', '.').. Namely that most peak oilers are middle class white men.

who are mostly geeky, armed, sexually frustrated, lost/wandering, and underemployed.

They already made Us into a movie:

what's funny is I'm white on paper, am considered white in places like Hawaii, but on the mainland US I'm ..... variable. Being part allegedly american Indian, but I'm going to say no more until I do that National Geographic DNA test to put some things to rest for once and for all ...

anyway, in northern parts of the mainland US I'd probably not be considered white, and I regularly get people expecting me to know Spanish - as in, Spanish speakers, then when I say I don't, they often think I'm just being uppity lol.

My viewpoint is that a world of "mud" people would not be a bad thing at all.

i love cosmo's. i don't care if they are often have feminine connotations, they are GOOD.

Cosmopolitan

ADJECTIVE:
1. Pertinent or common to the whole world
2. Having constituent elements from all over the world or from many different parts of the world
3. So sophisticated as to be at home in all parts of the world or conversant with many spheres of interest

That's what I meant by that option. Basically, that's the option for people who believe they are above race or ethnicity as a dividing factor.

Unfortunately, people seem to be using the "some other race or a combination of races" option for that purpose. Oh well, it's just a poll.

I was talking about the alcoholic beverage and being off-topic. (That's what popped in my head when I read the word...) but anyway, as much as I think I should I unfortunately don't have the gift of tounges, so obviously I couldn't be truly cosmopolitan. Or almost everyone? But i try.

No... you're not.

You're a mutt... just like me... & every other person reading this no matter what fantasies they may have.

So far that's 67 people who didn't pay attention & 11 educated folks.

Pass the collard greens please.

Definitions of Ethnicity on the Web

I do understand that I share a common ancestor with every other person on the planet.

I do understand the my family have mixed with other families from other cultures and countries.

That does not alter the fact that I am ethnically a white european. neither proud nor ashamed, but it is as much cultural as anything else.

I guess I'm saying I don't understand this strong assertion that there is no such thing.

Okay, I'll bite.

Thanks to my genealogy-fascinated Grandmother, I know I am a Heinz 57 mix. She uncovered a lot of ethnic variety just going back a couple centuries. I am the biological product of Russian Mennonites on the maternal side, Scottish Highlanders (Isle of Skye), Black Africans on my paternal side, French, Dutch, criminals, paupers, peasants, farmers, artists, writers, Mayors, entrepreneurs, sailors and a lot more. The more she dug, the more interesting and varied it got.

The last option is the only valid one for me. Even if you can trace your ancestry back to the 14th century, there was always someone in there who found the "different looking" guy or gal doable. :-)

By mixed race, I'm requiring at least a 12.5% influence from another ethnic group.

If you had a white great great grandmother and a black great great grandfather and all of your other ancestors from then on were black, I'm strongly inclined to say that you are black as well. And I'll bet that you consider yourself to be black too.

See? I can make up rules in the middle of the game too, ya know.

Aaron - you got it exactly, I'm a mutt. However, because I am classified as white, it means little to no education aid, much job discrimination (that's why I'm self-employed now) and so on. It also means, because I am on the lighter end of the continuum, yes, I don't get stopped in traffic by cops much, it's not assumed I'm a shoplifter, or criminal of some type (I have to go back to Hawaii to enjoy that, whites occupy the same ecological niche there that blacks do here) and I don't have to wait for the Sports Report to see someone who looks like me on the TV news.

Hey by the way, where IS the Aryan option? There are tons of Aryans around here, in fact India Cash & Carry even has candy with swastikas all over the packages. Many of the tons of Indians around here are Aryan, being of course Brahmins and the cream of India's techie crop. They are of course all dark-skinned, some very much so. Lucky folks, the sun is no problem for them.

If by Aryan you might mean those pale-as-paper folks who listen to crappy music and take meth and steal stuff, nope those are just your common white trash.

India is part of Asia.

Ergo:

Indian=Asian

I would have separated them out into a separate subgroup but I didn't believe it was necessary.

And based on the data, it clearly wasn't necessary.

Sure, there is intermixing but that doesn't automatically discredit the entire concept of racial identity.

I'm a half-breed. Half of my ancestors were always slaughtering, raping and pillaging off the other half regardless of which continent they were on at the time. I'm not picky about who's village i'll pillage so long as they've lots of cool goodies and their maidens are young & hot (better hope my young, hot half-breed GF doesn't see this or I'll be wearing a solar-powered shock-collar with a leash everytime I go out to raid ecovillages).

I used to wonder about the racial make-up of this board, before it became as glaringly obvious as the mid-day sun.

I always hear racist rants around here, and I'm always like, dude, didn't you go to graduate school? And then it hits me . . .

SOME PEOPLE DIDN'T GO TO GRADUATE SCHOOL!!!

Dun dun DUNNNNN . . .
