Help Spread The Word About Peak Oil

Introducing PeakWear!

Sport your new PeakWear duds and help raise awareness & save mankind! PeakWear clothing and stuff brings Peak Oil theory to the masses, one mind at a time. The more people get involved, the more likely we can avoid the worst effects of peak oil.

Look for more products soon, featuring improved graphics, eye-catching slogans, and more.

Those of you familiar with this site will assume this is another Aaron joke... but this one is real. It occurred to me that like any other serious advertiser, we should leave no stone unturned. And unless we are simply running our collective intellects for nothing, then for us, the peeps, this is all about awareness and understanding. So to that end, I have created an online web store with "Peak Oil" items for sale. It's all low-cost stuff like hats and T-Shirts and whatever, designed to get people to ask about peak. I'll be working on new ideas for products, so please feel free to float any ideas you might have to promote peak understanding.

Any profits from sales of PeakWear will be donated entirely to a very worthy charity... The Society for the Study of Sustainability Issues Involving Aaron. But believe me, the margins are razor thin and not really designed to make money anyway. In the event this takes off & I get rich, you are all invited, (please show PeakWear item at the first moat), to my post-peak compound in central Texas to share in a modest recreation of civilization. :)

But seriously, I am trying to brainstorm ways to promote peak oil awareness and if Nike promotes through clothing and stuff I think we should as well.

In reality I've brought it up to a few people, I'd say 50% grow interested enough to at least look into it while the other 50% just get a blank stare. The ones that listen are usually tied into energy via mining, the ones with the blank stare just don't get it.

The only problem is they set the price. Could be more than you made. Up to you.

I can imagine no quicker road to real media exposure than for a giant company to sue me for royalties for copyright material where there is virtually no damage (economic), any damages beyond the actual profits are unrecoverable, (I'm a cash and carry guy with no debt, and no assets), for a purely philanthropic activity. I should probably hope for such exposure, but I would probably just yank the tiems on request.

I wonder if an attorney might wish to comment?

How Kind

Thanks for the constructive advice. I also appreciate your candor in addressing your concerns. It exhibits the respect you have for yourself, and your respect for others. I might have sent a private message, (or none at all), myself if I felt as you appear to. Then again, even if it is lame, it becomes less so when compared to your last post. So thanks I guess...

Agreed...

But I am sincere about getting the word out, and it seemed like a simple way to enable almost anyone to help spread that idea in a more personal way. I mean we will never get heard by the non comp literate crowd unless more main media coverage is applied, so I thought that there might be people who would advertise peak on shirts and stuff. I figured that if tobacco, alcohol and others think it works, then I say we do everything like that we can think of to promote understanding about peak oil. If peak is sooner than later, it's not as if we would be adding to much to the evil oil economy, especially if more folks ask and learn about peak.

This came up because I was looking for some Peak merchandise for myself, but didn't find a thing except books etc... Then I thought, "Well, I wear shirts with all kinds of stuff on em. Matter of fact, I'm wearing a "Conservation Association" T shirt right now.

I'm going to do qoute shirts next... any help is appreciated.

Alright. I'll admit I was out of line telling you to rethink your life since we are all on the same boat. But your desire to spread peak oil awareness must ultimately be met by the economist's theory of supply in demand: If you supply poor quality t-shirts with clip art on them, demand will diminish.

I would wear a t-shirt and buy it from you happily if it met some criteria (I'm young, please, I know what people appreciate in t-shirts )

1-Limited amount of text that would have to be held up for people to read.

2-1 or 2 simple pictures that are clear and open to interpretation (The superman thing is too filled with peak oilist esoterica for any average person to even begin understanding.)

3-Good sizing :)

Maybe, a picture of a decrepit retro gas pump or a barrell of oil or just a buzzword on a plain white background.

Hi Aaron

here are some more ideas if you want...

posters with all sorts of quotes gathered from your website...

maybe ask the Uppsala people if you could reprint the protocol onto a huge poster (I asked but they never replied!!!! But they might reply to you) I think it would be a worthy thing to do for the Uppsala protocol, to get it out and about and visible.... into libraries, and public places ... like bus stops, university areas...

let me know if you want a hand with sizeing the graphics and stuff, I reckon some of your things would look even better if the graphics were boosted up or down a few sizes
