WaPo says Government controlled National Oil Companies control 77% of world's oil, and the remaining 23% is divided up between all the US, British, Dutch, French etc. private multi-nationals that make up so-called "Big Oil."

i thought big oils was the commercial international oil companies, under that definition what percentage? i'm attempting to have information to thwart the argument that big oil is gouging the consumer with big profits.

According to WaPo, about 23%.

That includes BP, Total, and Royal Dutch Shell and other foreign oil companies combined with the U.S. big oil companies like Exxon and Chevron.

You sometimes see a lower figure of ca. 12-15% just for the US oil companies.
