Gas Boycotts: Epitome of stupidity and ignorance

And every year, there's at least one person who comes up with the "brilliant" idea of boycotting fuel on X date. Smart. Reeealllly smart.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Drifter', 'S')ome wise quotes from Gas Prices forum: I challenge everyone here to wade through that forum and actually read the posts. I swear, the gas prices forum listed below has got to be the scariest stuff I have read on the internet regarding oil and gasoline prices. The stupidity and ignorance shown by most posters there is beyond belief. And what is really scary is that they represent the thinking of most Americans. 8O

I live in the SF Bay Area. I hang around engineers. And this is exactly the way they talk. 8O

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Choon', 'A')nd every year, there's at least one person who comes up with the "brilliant" idea of boycotting fuel on X date. Smart. Reeealllly smart.

One person on this board recently mentioned that but said that it would have to be done for a month. Wonder what that would do to the American economy? Can you spell T-A-N-K?

Awww, bless their little heads. They see something and can't explain it because they lack the necessary knowledge. That is sooo adorable.

What's funny is that ppl don't see that these things may be parameters that impose limits no matter what.

As in, "Gas can't get expensive becuase I can't afford for it to get expensive"

As opposed to "gas is expensive because of things beyond my control and so I must proact or react accordingly"

This is the generation that controls its own destiny. In the West, it is incomprehensible that anything should be outside of a society's collective control. Everything is possible.

It's the outside context problem again.

People are just going to have to get used to hearing the word 'no'.

Yup, if some how you were able to show them what we all know, that the world has long past peak light sweet crude and most likely passed PO, you would destroy their world.

Pretty much everything they thought they knew about the world would be destroyed.

Explain to them how their brand new SUV is going to be an albatross around their neck. Explain how there is now viable alternative to gasoline for personal transport. Tell them how Corn ethanol is bad joke.
Tell them technology is not going to save them. Tell them about the tar sands and how much ng that it uses up.

Explain how Cantarell, the North Slope, the North Sea and most likely Ghawar have pasted peak.

Most people don't like to hear about the end of their world. Two seconds into this conversation and they are going to think you are a complete loon.
