If you want to understand the importance of that other non-renewable energy source that is essential in the running of our society then this is the book for you.
Darley starts with the basics and describes what natural gas is, where it comes from, and what we use it for. He then goes show how the importance of it for the United States due to the recent peak of natural gas production there and in it's northern neighbour Canada.
As well as showing a picture worldwide of natural gas production he also describes the problems that are posed by the inevitable oil peak in order to paint a picture to the reader of a global energy crisis that is on the horizon.
You also learn some quite amazing facts. Did you know for example, that under a NAFTA trading agreement Canada has to provide the US with 60% of its domestic gas needs- even if the rate of Canadian production is in decline.
As well as offering solutions to the problem and action that needs to be taken, the book also contains several websites that can be accessed to obtain information.
Overall a very well written and informative book which is aimed at newcomers to the incoming energy crisis and gives them a very broad picture of the situation.
