Meeting other Peakoilers F2F - a positive thing

Unread postby julianj » Tue 01 May 2007, 04:16:21

I went to NYC from London on business a few days ago and met the NYC meetup group:

http://oilawareness.meetup.com/36/

Also mmasters from this board came along - nice guy! And he suggested I post about the benefits of meeting fellow Peakoilers.

Basically it is very comforting to meet lots of people who don't think you're a loony. Fortunately I joined the UK group Powerswitch www.powerswitch.org.uk at its beginning over 2 years ago and having non-virtual meetings in pubs helped me through the early stages of fear, anxiety and depression that often affect people when they discover the truth.

I know that it is much harder in large places like US, Canada and Australia, for example to find like-minded souls, but with the increasing awareness, including in Green groups, and meetup groups like the one above it is possible. I recommend it.

Nice to hear you had a good experience and that mmasters did not feel the need to cannibalize your post peak corpse er nothin' :o

I realized early on that the people I need to be near are not neccessarily peak oilers but people who are already doing all the things I think I should be doing.
Do people like the amish really need to be told about PO? 8)

I understand the need to talk about it and yeah F2F would be excellent yet for many of us, places like this forum will have to suffice as the only continued confirmation of our sanity, except jack who as we all know is perfectly insane :-D
It is easier to enslave a people that wish to remain free then it is to free a people who wish to remain enslaved.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'D')o people like the amish really need to be told about PO?

Nope, they will be the ones saying "Told you so".

Here's an idea.
Maybe the Amish are the NWO. All this time they looked at the Englishmen foolishly shopping, driving, watching tv....biding their time. Soon they will be the masters.
And all those icecreams in the face from stupid tourist testing their patience haven't been forgotten. [smilie=XXhesitantdevil.gif]

Jack's a pussycat! Albeit a heavily-armed and rather polite one.

Mind you, I'd have to carry a white flag if I wanted an F2F with him.
