Ah the butterfly effect so to speak. Some damn trucker at 3 am causes the collapse of our vulnerable fuel system. An even greater Irony is that the trucker caused the very collapse of a system he works for! And he was hauling of all things....gasoline. I thought for sure that Gas prices would rise because of this accident.
Yep, the system contains the seeds of its own destruction, soooo cool.
I read the most interesting book on bicycle commuting/utility riding today, one little snippet of information in there is that the chemical Benzine is not very good for humans, even in tiny amounts - and "gas" in the US contains about 2% benzine - that's a lot of benzine!
Oh, ok, I'll pry loose another.... there's a long long chapter on bike safety stats, helmet wearing, etc., and basically..... spend an hour driving, walking, or biking, and you're equally likely each way to end up dead*
*this is in contrast to Ken Kifer's data, which says walking (because of cars) is the most dangerous to a significant degree, then motorcycling, then car driving and bicycling about even, because the health enhancement of bicycling cancels out the slightly higher accident rate. Kifer also says the stats he draws on are skewed, since they count things like the drunk guys leaving the bar at 2AM on their bikes because they DUI'd their driver's licenses away.
