$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Crypto', 'A')lso, the question comes to mind, why would you be discussing PO on, say, a knife forum? Since that forum revolves around knives, that should be the subject. If PO comes up, then suggest your favorite PO site.
Just a thought.
DC
Good thoughts, but a counter thought... In a knife forum, it is logical for a person to say why they like a certain kind of survival knife for example, "I think this knife will be good for when the
PO SHTF!". But people immediately being upset is not surprising. The people in a general knife forum are not likely to study geology or energy problems in the world.
Getting upset is a reaction is typical of most people when they have a belief challenged. If you tell the average
educated office worker that:
"You forwarded me an email about the season being screwed up because of the full moon. Climate studies suggest these unstable seasons are likely due to global warming and climate change. Here is a chart of 400,000 years of earth temperature from ice cores correlating CO2. As the earth gets warmer things are changing... P.S. The phases of the moon don't affect weather like tides."
Then you will be cut up at the water cooler because you don't believe the moon E-mail and you think the earth is more then 5000 years old! Same goes for Urban Legends and most fact free stories forwarded by email. Normal people are not interested in facts, only roomers and themselves being right.
One of the differences between a scientist and the average Joe, the scientist can accept when he is wrong. The scientist even wants to know if he is wrong and seeks facts. The average Joe just wants to believe he is right and stick it in your face if you don't. So don't feel too bad when you run into an average Joe. They can't think.
Sorry if I'm ranting...
