Freedom fighters or terrorists?
Two sides of the same coin most of the time. It just depends on which side you're on, and what you believe to be the truth.

However, there is nothing terroristic about attacking military forces, so in this case, I would not call these individuals terrorists. Call them guerillas, militia, paramilitary, whatever. Remember those planes that flew into the towers? That's terrorism. Militaries exist to defend against attacks. Militaries are supposed to expect attacks, so why is it an act of terrorism to attack one? It is not.

Remember those guys cutting off civilians' heads with a steak knife? Now that's terrorism. That's old-school scare tactics right there. Its only intention is to terrorize. I've got no problem calling those guys terrorists. We've got to be careful how we define terrorism. When people attack our military, it pisses me off, too. Call them bastards, MFers, whatever, but let's not misuse the word "terrorist" like the FoxNews people do.

I agree - when occupying solders get killed by locals it's not terrorism, it's fighting back and entirely reasonable given the situation in Iraq today.

yea its not like killing yourself for a cause that you believe takes any balls. of course not, it only takes cowardice to do so. how could i have been so blind!!

When your brainwashed and promised 72 goddamned virgins of COURSE you'll kill yourself for a cause!! Why do you think Islam uses young people (generally) for the suicide bombers? Because they easily manipulated, the older ones are smarter then that!!
Hell, even I myself have thought of pickin up a gun and screamin Allah. 72 virgins man, thats a helluva deal right there......

And what did we promise those young GIs who refused their orders when they said their trucks did not have proper armor? What are we promising them. Oh yeah, we promised that they would see the world, get a college education, stuff like that.

Not much difference here. Uncle Sam holds out a few consumer goodies. Allah hold out the virgins. And what many are getting is death and destruction.

Probably 20 as a guess. I understand why ANY army wants younger people. You get a full-of-piss-and-vinegar 18 year old and give him a gun and tell him to charge a hill with a machinegun on top, and he will. Give that same gun and same order to a 30 year old and he'll tell you your just crazy and no way in HELL he's doing it.
Difference is, our boys are charging those hills whereas "they" are blowing up bus stops and schools.

Sure there are casualties and the 'freedomfighter/terrorist" gets a good shot in here and there. I think the main point is that we're there, we're going to stay, and we have big military bases established in the region for the Peak Oil end game.

what?

The age is about the same.
The reason for that is about the same.
The objectives are vastly different.
The rewards are vastly different.

As far as I know it's the coalition forces blowing up schools, mosques and homes (not that I can't think of any other place a resistance could hide) and whereas the resistance prefer to blow up police stations, oil pipelines and cars.

Whoops, I didn't notice the busy postings here, the message above was a reply to Specops_007's post about "they" attacking schools.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ailrickson', 'T')he more I see the US moving, the more I think that by the time peak oil hits, the US will barely be a player. How many more soldiers will the US loose before they call it quits and move out? Vietnam was how much - 50 000? I can tell you one thing, I dont see the Iraqi people stoping their 'freedom efforts' at that number.
How close are they now? Oh, and when TSHTF, or the peak oil end-game if you will, think the US will be able to handle about a dozen Iraqs? What about Russia, China, Japan, (dare I mention them?) France and others? Germany might step in? Who knows?
I dont think the peak oil endgame is one the US has much of a chance at winning. I would put my money on Russia myself, then China, then India, then a handful of Europeen countries that might unite for the purpose. After all that, I might be willing to put a dollar on the US, but in my opinion there are positionned as underdogs going into the final rounds of the industrial age (if it is, the end of the industrial age).

This could all be true. I don't know. But surely you have to acknowledge that the US has developed miltary technology to a vastly greater extent than Russia or China. Plus, a lot of how you interpret this thing depends on how you really view Peak Oil. If it truly is as bad as it seems to me, then the US government is going to insist upon victory or nothing. I am nowhere near as emotionally identified with my government as I used to be. The whole situation is actually very spooky. If the shrooms start sprouting then it will fulfill a dream I had 31 years ago. Sort of like Joseph and his coat. I dreamt when I was 19 that I was in a far off future and an H-Bomb blast was coming. We could see it in the distance. Everybody was running around in a panic. I sat down calmly to let it come and when the blast came everything was gone except my consciousness.

I fell into a burning ring of fire
I went down down down and the flames went higher
And it burns burns burns
The ring of Fire!

The taste of love is sweet
When hearts like ours' meet
I fell for you like a child
But oh, how the fire went wild!

Don't get me wrong, shithead :-D

Yeah, I hear they are taking a bill before congress to be able to draft women too. yeah for women liberation. although there are 13.5 million guys aged 19 to 25, I guess they don't wnat to kill them all off and want to equalize the sexes.

Afterall if you kill off a few hundred thousand men who will create the next generation of tax payers?

and hey if anyone wants a job you could always apply for one of the " 10,350 local draft board positions and 11,070 appeals board posts". That might exclude you from the draft they say is coming back in June 2005.

any americans under 34 yrs old here?

Welcome to the Brave New World. Women wanted equality, now they have it. Myself, I like the way it used to be. The whole chattel thing. No votes for women. Get out in that kitchen, rattle those pots and pans. I'm only semi kidding. Has our attempt to provide gender equality worked? We've moved way away from the Moslem approach. Now we're raising brats who can hardly spel their own name! What's your take ladies?
