In Montana you are legally justified in using lethal force to stop a forcible felony. That's a forcible felony if I ever saw one. In addition that guy could very easily have killed her. That she walked away is a gift of fate. If you did shoot the guy, I'd much rather be facing a jury in Texas or Montana than in Chicago.

What if there were no videotape and Aaron were black and killed the white police officer. He wouldn't even get a trial.

That's easy. There are no black people in Montana. If Aaron was an Indian and shot a white cop, well maybe if the bartender would testify for him, maybe he'd have a chance. There's a good chance he'd spend some time at Deerlodge though.

There was a perfectly reasonable explanation for this. Apparently the woman was the cops wife and she had just burned his dinner.

This random violence seems to be more prevalent in the English speaking countries IMO. For example, you cannot walk down any major Irish city street late at night as a man on your own. More likely than not, you will be set upon by a drunken gang and beaten into a vegetative state. This sort of thing is also common in the UK.

From my experience, the US does not have the same level of this sort of thing but in France, and Germany etc. it's practically unheard of.

Yea, its pretty interesting. I spent several months in Paris over the course of a year for work with a colleague. We always went out very late for dinner, and often were wandering around lost at 2AM and later in all parts of the city. In one particularly seedy-looking area (meaning there were prostitutes about), I asked if we should be worried about getting jacked. He pointed out that it would be a bunch of French guys that would be doing the mugging and that seemed to make it less worrisome. Now, I like the French, but it did seem unlikely that we could lose a fight to a few Frenchies.
