CHICAGO (Reuters) -- Coca-Cola may investigate alternatives to high fructose corn syrup, its main sweetener in the U.S. market, because of high corn prices, a company executive said Monday.
"The price increases that we're seeing for corn and high fructose corn syrup are unlike we've seen in many a year. We're clearly feeling the pinch and it's been tough," said Scott Young, a food service division executive at the company. <snip>
Corn prices have recently soared as more of the crop is diverted to use in ethanol, the gasoline additive that has become more popular in the wake of higher fuel prices and increasing interest in cleaner-burning fuels.

That must be a tough choice for the Americans. I mean the choice between driving and some starving Mexicans is easy. But between driving and coke?

Burns: "Why it's like taking candy from a baby and putting it in my gas tank!"
Smithers: "All that sugar wasn't good for them anyway sir."
Burns: "It's too bad though, I heard coke was good for cleaning blood off the highway."
Smithers: "That's just an Urban Legend sir."
Burns: "What, like you being straight?"
Smithers: "Um, lets get back to talking about the end of the oil age sir."

Image Homer: "Hehehe, they even look like bottles of oil!"

Coke made with real sugar does taste better IMO also :-D But with Brazil making Ethanol from sugar cane, I bet prices for real sugar on the shelf will start rising and same for the soda drinks...

The president of Brazil driving an SUV that runs on Ethanol, Gas, Natural Gas or Cola(joking). But it is amusing, the thing looks like polished up Mad Max creation! Kind of like something out of a doomer porn, a polished armored vehicle that can run on anything available at the pump.

Nice picture, Dukey. Very '80s - especially the hair. I think today we would have a bottle of Oxycontin or a pipe with meth in it.

The whole ethanol thing is hysterical. I can't wait to see what the next miracle fuel is going to be.
