$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('mercurygirl', 'T')he best things in life aren't things.
So true, mercurygirl.
My grandparents were very poor when they started their family in the Great Depression. They lived in a two-room shack with their four daughters for 12 years until they could afford to build a small home, all the while living off of what they grew in their large garden, storing pickled eggs in the ground in the winter, canning vegetables, etc. My mom didn't have a toothbrush until she was 14!
My grandparents are gone, but my mom and her sisters, though separated by much distance, remain very close, talking every few days and getting together once a year. All four of them are comfortable financially now, but their shared hardships made the bonds between them very strong. And they are all such amazing women - incredible can-do spirit! I admire them all very much.
