Anyone here ever signed an employment contract, then turned down the offer before actually commencing work?

I signed a contract after not getting my preferred position, then a few weeks before I was due to start the first company calls me up and tells me another position has become available.

What do you do?

You're going to have to give more information, not really sure what you are talking about.

First and foremost have you excepted any pay or benefits from the second company.

2) is the 2nd company a direct competitor with the 1st company.

3) Have you actually started work for the second company?


If you can answer no all of those questions and you really want the first job, then tell the 2nd company to go to hell and do as you please. If you can't answer no, speak with the 2nd company about ending your contract as other offers have presented themselves that you wish to pursue. If they will let you out of your contract that's great. If not you may wish to see and attorney.

You can't be in two places at once. So just find out as much as you can about both positions and choose the one that sounds more your style.
