I'll have drink on you, and everyone else on this choo-choo train headed towards that cliff on the strangely visible horizon.

I was in Truthout reading a few stories, everything is about oil, Iran, Russia, China. Saw an article on the Dubya team (Bush/Cheney gang). Neurons began firing up all over, googling, next thing you know I'm on Matt's site reading his stark 2 pager.

Sheesh, it hasn't even sunk in yet. Obviously. But I wish it was the day before, I really do. I feel like I've just been kicked in the stomach with a blindfold on.

Time to read on, time to develop some new skills too!

We understand... welcome.
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

Its the funniest thing in retrospect. I had googled 'Happy News' one day cause I was getting depressed that all the news stories on my homepage, in the papers, on TV and radio were so sad and depressing. I thought lets find a nice site that promotes humanity and celebrates the good in pple. Click after click after click I ended up on the most depressing site of my life. Lifeaftertheoilcrash. I sat there and read that page for like 2 hours. I was hooked. I then followed link after link till I had also comprised this site in my newest little 'favorites' folder. Here we are today.

It seems ironic I found about this site and issue while searching for happy news. This is about as far from happy as neptune is from the sun. Maybe my opening line here was not so appropriate. But I still laugh now when I think about it.

G'day everyone.

I saw a documentary on TV about Peak Oil and it really got me thinking. I did a Google search for Peak Oil and found the site - lifeaftertheoilcrash - and I believe there was a link to this site.

Wow! I am now really concerned. What a wake up call. Its hard to believe such a problem could be on the near horizon. Why aren't we hearing more about it?

I can tell you that here in my country, we are going to be totally and utterly unprepared for the change in living dynamics resulting from an oil shortage and the discussed fallout.

Nobody here is talking about it.

I can see the challenge is going to be to truly understanding the problem and the true effects of no oil. I mean I had a good look through some of the other topics and posts and people seem to be not only talking about the topic, but actually confidently, and aggressively going about setting up sustainable living environments as if we are going to almost return to the Agrarian Age and become self-sufficient farmers and herdsmen.

I really do hope it won’t go to that extent. Will we actually loose electricity as well? How long after we loose oil will we lose power? I know that electricity has some percentage of oil in it, I think. I really don’t understand the nitty gritty of the whole problem. But I’m going to. Surely the governments must know about the problem and be preparing themselves for the potential problems.

I look forward to using this site to build my knowledge about the issue and share info with all you guys. Lets hope the problem is not as devastating as we might think.

Welcome, I hear what you are saying. What a shock.

Hang in their, keep the faith. Here I would normally say its not as bad as it seems. But in this case, it might be. But in anyevent, nothing you can do about it but get prepared as best you can. At least your aware now and thats the first step. (probably hardest step too, accepting this as a reality). From this point we are all in the same boat. Preparing and waiting for the other shoe to drop now.

Welcome to the community.

i found the site after googling geopolitics, it comes up first for some reason. I'd take the mass population extinction thing with a huge grain of salt .. there's no need to start culling the human herd.

Hey, whats the point of participating on an Apocalypse board if there isn't going to be a die-off!!! We need the zombie corpses to help fertilize all these industrially farmed, depleted corn fields.

To answer the topic question... I was poking various global warming activists on usenet and this alt group showed up about debunking peak oil, so I came over here to poke them some more (policy: no sanctuary); now I'm convinced that the end is nigh, and I'd best get to planting a bunch of fruit trees this winter!

So i'm new here, from England, was doing some research into the reasons behind oil prices rising recently and stumbled across this site. Spent hours reading through posts ect.

It seems just so daunting that probably in the next 5 or so years our whole way of life is going to change 8O and there is barely anything as a planet that we can do to stop it. Although i will be making some basic preperations.

Should hopefully get a few friends who i think would be interested in this on board the site aswell.

I stumbled on a link to Matt's site (LATOC) from a Yahoo Finance stock trading forum.

I had no clue about Peak Oil. Coming form a technical background I always assumed "science will solve everything".

LATOC - google - LATOC - google - LATOC - google (contemplate a google LATOC conspiracy) peakoil.net oildrum aspo altavista yahoo msn ebay? peak oil was everywhere just never realized.
So once ya get to that point then you gotta seek like minded people right??? peakoil.com
This is where we attempt to reassure ourselves that we are not going crazy ;-)

I wonder if peak oil is "enough" truth in one lifetime for most people.

My name is Greg Ellis. I'm an American who has lived in Japan for nine years, and seeing the political, economic and environmental future of America as being dim and dangerous and not wanting to continue living in Japan, I applied to immigrate to Canada, the visa for which I have received. I plan to move to London or Toronto (depending on jobs) Ontario in April, where I will being the workshops and classes on the weekends and holidays to acquire the pre-oil skills in hand-tool building, wagon & wheel building, blacksmithing, etc.

I found this site because one of the moderators on the Post Carbon (London) informed me that my posts (topics related to the content outlined in Kunstler and others) ran counter to their "values and mission." He kindly introduced me to this forum, where political correctness would not stifle peoples' ability to theorize, discuss and prepare for ALL possible futures and contingencies, and not just the ones that agree with our perfect models of the world and how we think it SHOULD be.

I must at least be thankful for the reference to this site, and so I wish that group the best in their ideological zeal.

I honestly can't remember the full story. I thing I had been reading the ASPO site for a couple months and then I checked the ".com" version to see who had it and found this site. I can't remember what led me to ASPO though - probably googled after reading something.

I first found dieoff.com, then the discussion group connected to that, then Life After the Oil Crash and ASPO and then PO.com. I love this thing. I have been peak oil aware for about 5 years and at first I was dying to talk to people, but nobody knew what I was talking about. It's hard to talk to people who have none of the background on peak oil. This forum gives me a place to talk to people who know what's going on. I feel like peak oil is a key to understanding politics and world events. It's the place to be to talk about this stuff. Thanks!

I really don't remember how I found this site, or even how I found out about Peak Oil. I've been researching energy issues for years, so I'm sure I must have read something about PO at one point and kept it in the back of my mind. Then a year or so ago I probably googled it (I google a lot), and found myself here. This is the only forum I visit anymore, having just resigned from another preparedness-type forum where I got sick of the Christian rightwing nationalist "America should rule the world" bullshit.

You have a problem with political correctness, yet you're moving to Canada? Good luck with that. It's against the law there to not be PC. Literally. Welcome anyways.
