Our leaders are helping the corporations screw the people. Today was mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg's "State of the City" speech, and he focused on "keeping New York City's economy strong". Here's an excerpt:

Hey, I'm from New York (originally). Bloomberg and Schumer are just two guys to me. Rather than pointing out their religion, I was hoping people would point out their affiliations to corporate influences and the fact that they "govern" some of our country and are all for screwing Americans (including Jewish people, I'm sure) in favor of cheaper labor from overseas to enrich their corporate masters.

I rather think this is a good idea, because Americans aren't focusing enough on education and taking the right steps in order to be successful.

If you want a powerful civilization, you need competant people. If you aren't making them at home for whatever reason, you have to import them. It's as simple as that.

Ontop of that even if you did stop the legal immigration of competant intelligent workers, you'd end up simply losing the jobs overseas to individuals who were willing to do the work there, and would simply encourage people illegally to come to the United States.

I personally think that if we imported the best scientist, engineers, ect... to the United States en masse, America would benefit. We would end up having a far more competitive economy while the third world would suffer brain drain, making them less competetive against the U.S in a global marketplace. Also, the more intelligent businessmen, engineers, scientist, real wealth generating people you have, the more wealth creating human resources you have, the more jobs will be created for the masses in general.

If we imported immigrants from other countries that were more competant, had higher morality, other good traits ect... then are civilization would reflect that, while they would compete with Illegal immigrants for the jobs Americans don't want to do.

Economically, and from the standpoint of making a stronger civilization, it makes sense.

I'm just playing the other side here:

Current unemployment for people with college degrees is extremely low. 4% or 5% is generally considered "full" employment. We are currently running at only 2.2% unemployment for college educated workers.

The labor market for skilled labor is therefore, extremely tight.
There are plenty of places in America with Help Wanted signs for highly skilled workers.

The problem is that we have lots of unemployed unskilled workers. These unskilled workers are unable to fill those jobs and thus we are stuck. That's where the need for immigrants comes in.

Immigrants who come to this country legally in order to either educate themselves of their children are far more likely to open up businesses and invent new products.

If you take a look at the list of American inventors that were immigrants, it's astounding. We need these innovators to move our economy forward.

My dad used to work for an engineering firm that was started by a pair of Indian immigrants. Immigrants often create jobs rather than "steal" them from native born Americans. Claiming that immigrants are stealing American jobs and working for pennies is nothing more than Xenophobia.

My problem with the current immigration system is that we are too restrictive towards intelligent, hardworking, entrepenuerial, legal immigrants and far too lenient with illegal immigrants. We need to shut down the Mexican border tonight and at the same time open up our country to skilled workers.

If you actually read Mayor Bloomberg's speech, he says quite clearly that we need to improve our education system to better deal with foreign competition and that currently we are failing our children. If we can improve the American education system to the point where we can actually compete with the rest of the world, we won't have to import more skilled workers to fill the void.

Just my 2 cents...
