anybody hear that guy on coasttocoastam on Saturday who said he was a reincarnated English Shire Draft horse? Said he had memories of pulling wagons and told stories that showed how well he understands horses. one of the better shows, really. I'm sure if you heard it you would agree.

I am the Walrus. Not really.

Seriously, in matters of public engagement and setting policy it is sometimes good to join the flock. Sometimes the mob is right. Sometimes it is best to be the shepard. Sometimes it is even best to be a wolf in sheep's clothing

Mankind which crawls on all fours as a baby, walks on two legs as an adult, and walks with a cane in old age.

Now are you going to destroy yourself er what! :)
It is easier to enslave a people that wish to remain free then it is to free a people who wish to remain enslaved.

Well...there are so far 3 honest people out of 15 respondents. You are ALL bowing down to authority and you better believe it. About the only person in the US not bowing down to authority right now is that guy in NH, and he will bow or die. (And no you don't get to be all superior if you live in Europe or New Zealand. You're bleating along with the rest of us.)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')t is often used to denote persons who acquiesce (bow down) to authority, and thus undermine their own human individuality.

The implication of sheeple is that people believe whatever they are told, without processing it to be sure that it is an accurate representation of the real world around them.

I do not agree with the first part of this statement. The second part I do agree with and is how I have always understood the definition of sheeple.

Following blindly and following willingly are not necessarily linked as the author of this article is portraying. Has there ever been a leader that was not a follower at some time? If I choose to follow authority after thinking about why and agreeing that is is an appropriate course it does not make me a sheeple.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('smallpoxgirl', 'W')ell...there are so far 3 honest people out of 15 respondents. You are ALL bowing down to authority and you better believe it. I suppose a tribal arrangement with small numbers of hunter/gatherers would not have arrangements of authority? but even for them there are some kinds of authority set-ups, aren't there? at least vis-a-vis the children and the elders? I don't know. But I do know that life for us would be impossible and we would all soon be dead without delegation and social sanction of relationships of authority. That is the human condition. Or so it seems to me. I'm open to suggestions, how do we abolish all social arrangements where some people wield some sort of limited authority over others? And also, unless one is absolute dictator, everyone has some authority that they must answer to. And even absolute dictators answer to the necessity of constant vigilance against coup plots and the danger that they will wind up hung from a lamppost. So that would seem to mean that we are all born sheeple and there isn't a damn thing we can do about it, except to run off into the woods and eat roots and worms.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('PenultimateManStanding', 'B')ut I do know that life for us would be impossible and we would all soon be dead without delegation and social sanction of relationships of authority.
And being a live slave is better than being dead? You can go on all day long about how stylish your manacles are and how you would have bought them for yourself if the government hadn't provided them. You are still a slave.

I hope you checked box A. Or are you a dishonest slave to boot?

choice IS an illusion, this is however for most people impossible to fully grasp and/or accept. And realizing it does not have much practicle value anyway.
