How would the world respond to?

If someone had a device and started creating a bunch of artificial islands, would the world demand that those new islands that are created belong to Government X, or Government Y?

Even if the Islands were outside of the 200 mile range?

Also, do you think they'd have to defend the islands from marauders?

On a further note, do you think they could enlist people to come to the islands to form a volunteer army to help protect the islands in exchange for land?

I think if you kept a few of those nukes you used to make the islands, you would be fine, as in no one would attack you. I think you could easily get people to join your new country as long as you had a well defined vision, something like "you must believe in free energy" as one rule might get the type of people you want there. :)

Fun thought personally. How could a govt claim an island if it was not within the 200 mile zone? On what pretense? Don't know.

Which brings the question, where is/are the locations(s) that are not within 200 miles of any land-grabbing country? Sounds almost do-able. If it is warm there, let me know.

What you are talking about would probably be considered a micronation. There are a bunch of them out there, but my personal favorite has got to be The Principality of Sealand.

The legal status of micronations is...muddy at best. But boy oh boy, are they fun to read about!

No problem if you have the money.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'w')ould the world demand that those new islands that are created belong to Government X, or Government Y?

They might, but if you make it more costly then its worth, then they won't bother you.

And don't put the island on a strategic location.
