Domestic spying attempts will not be renewed:

If you fuck with the American people, they will vote your party out of office. It's that simple.

Where are all of the ACLU bashing assholes now?

So how do you interpret this?:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('paragraph 3', 'B')ush has reauthorized the program every 45 days, and the current authorization is mid-cycle, a senior Justice Department official said. Gonzales said a recent secret-court approval allowed the government to act effectively without the program.

It looks like they wil keep doing the wiretaps, this time under the "direction" of some secret court. So Sorry, the news is not good.

It is easier to enslave a people that wish to remain free then it is to free a people who wish to remain enslaved.

What did I get out of the out of context quote? Nothing has really changed, that's what I got out of the quote. The government will have to follow the law as previously written. The "secret" FISA court will have to be consulted before "legal" wire tapping is granted. We all know how much illegal wire tapping happens in this country. Am I shocked? No.

The administration is bending under pressure due to Bush's recent troop deployment, which is very unpopular (I personally found it delusional). The administration seems to be willing to concede some of their domestic spying agenda in order to gather support for the recent military move. This is politics at it's best. If the Republicans want to save their grip on the executive branch, they need to let up. Their agenda is way to extreme, as they are finding out. Americans were shocked when they found out about corporate/government domestic wire tapping and data mining schemes. What the hell is going on?

More from the NYT, the paper that broke the original story.

Yes, all this means is that the judicial branch is now under total control of the executive branch... One branch to go and king george will be in the white house until he dies...
