Yes, I find that one of the greatest ironies of our time. Storing fat for the lean times of famine was a survival instinct honed over millions of years of evolution. In a cruel twist of fate we evolved a taste for poison. Because of an over abundence of food those with the "fat gene" turn in bulbus blobs while the frail reproduce in frightening numbers. Fortuately humans evolved inteligence and the appreciation for such ironies. Some of us see the world for what it is.
