I'm only 20 minutes into it and think it's great. If you didn't know this stuff before it will chill your blood.

Oh wait, I know all about Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railroad Company and I'm still getting chills. It's amazing how seeing something in the film format really brings it to life.

Thanks for posting this Khan, great find.

Yeah, it's really good. How about that psychological checklist? Most corporations have the personality profile of a psychopath.

Worth every minute.
Excellent find.

Although I have a grievance or two ;-)

Firstly I can easily imagine the corporation being just another tool of the central banking system - federal reserve.
Its not to get more money/power but to continually seperate us from ours.

Once a person learns about PO then they see everything in PO terms as well as whatever "normal" terms were prior.
Once one becomes aware of the influence of the central bankers then that influence can no longer be easily forgotten or ignored when thinking things thoroughly through - "wtttt" for short ;-)
Thus central banker as the driver of the corporate machine is a step I can take without much thought.

They didnt have to directly play in the game - just promote and fund it.
They could easily allow another echelon of wealthy to join the fold.
Like WWII - regardless of the outcome - they win we lose.

Sheesh 95%+ of the crap we buy is either polluting the environment, promoting slave labor, promoting war or otherwise bad for everyone and everything.

My final issue is with boycotting.
How do we boycott when in most instances we really do not have a choice.
Some of the biggest offenders are Corps. like Walmart and their biggest customer is the poor.
Now imagine asking the poor people to give up their little bit of disposable income.
What worked in the past will not work now.
Awareness is critical yet it will not solve this problem alone.

I still have hope for civil disobedience yet I know the slave camps were not built without reason.

ok I feel better - sorry 8)

Great movie *emotionally disturbing* neopo gives it 3 thumbs up.
It is easier to enslave a people that wish to remain free then it is to free a people who wish to remain enslaved.

I agree that boycotting won't get you anywhere when you think Walmart. I think the origin of the problem is that our economic system is fundamentally based on having a great inequality. We have exported a lot of that inequality to other countries, so many people don't see it, but it's still there.

Anything we can think of to reduce that inequality can help. The problem is that most of us in this forum are living a lifestyle that we couldn't give to everybody in this finite planet. So it isn't just a matter of helping the poor. We also have to learn how to live with less.

It's also available as a bittorrent download here.

Apparently this was released by the filmmaker. How the heck does he expect to make any money like this? :)

I applaud Mark Achbar for making this important film. You can also find out more about this immense problem here.

Now back to watching the movie, I fell asleep watching it last night.

EDIT: I just wanted to add that this thread should be in the "Peak Oil Discussion" forum, because the modern corporate form is only possible with cheap energy. One person in the film even says the corporation got it's start with Thomas Newcomen's steam pump that ran on coal.

Apparently, this movie has been pulled from Google Video.

It is still available via bittorrent here.

It's too bad it's gone.

The Corporation Trailer

Should have downloaded it when we had the chance.
Time to make some money on this I guess.
Why not - if I see it for sale I will buy it because I like giving some of my money to people who think and try to educate.
