It is easier to enslave a people that wish to remain free then it is to free a people who wish to remain enslaved.

The character is a rip-off of Balki from "Perfect Strangers", and Latka Gravis from "Taxi" . Yawn.... How original.

I've been following his performances for a couple years. Borat is okay, but I consider Ali G and Bruno to be much more entertaining. His interviews and skits are where his talents really shine. The movies (ali g, a campy, slapstick character-driven comedy, and Borat, an evolution of his interview style streched thinly over a premise) are, to my mind, nothing more than attempts to capitalize and mainstream his original form, which was drop-dead brilliant and hilarious. The movies pale in comparison. Youtube "Ali G" for some of his original interview bits for British Television which are brilliant.

One of his funniest moments in Ali G was when he was being moved on by a policeman. "Is it 'cos I is black?" he implored. The policeman didn't seem to notice that he was as black as I am (i.e. not at all) and defensively told him it wasn't.

I only have a vague idea what Borat is (basically a rip-off of Andy Kaufman's Taxi character as far as I can tell), and never heard of Ali G until I read this thread. Searched for his vids on Youtube---some seriously funny shit. Just watched the one where he interviews Chomsky. Not one of his funnier sketches, but Chomsky's complete lack of humor was entertaining in its own right.

I think my favorites so far are his dangerous drugs interview and the medical panel. Freaking hilarious. How on earth does he get these people to agree to do interviews with him?
