believe it or not, but the UK is geographically as well as politically a part of Europe
Hi Mark,
I guess you Germans may not be aware, but many people in the UK (myself included) don't really see ourselves as part of Europe, certainly not geographically. I think that comes from living on an island away from the rest of you lot!!
Colloquially then, when I say Europe I mean to say Mainland Europe. Sorry about the confusion! It does sound quite silly when you put it like that!! I think it is a useful distinction though, as Britain is very different to the rest of Europe, for instance we drive on the sensible side of the road

. But that's another story entirely!!
