Dancing With The Stars Draws More Viewers Than World Series

That’s it! Were done!

This is the most disturbing news I’ve heard since the WWF started out drawing Monday Night Football. What are we becoming? A nation of makeup wearing, metro-sexual, bedwetting mama’s boys.

I think this will work out nicely. The majority of men, being continually stripped of more of their masculinity, become more docile and less likely to act out in times of stress. Easier to control for TPTB. Less competition for the remaining alphas.

Don't waste time complaining about how other men are wimps. Assert your own masculinity and take advantage of the situation.

So overpaid, hyped prissy dancing stars get more attention than overpaid, hyped prissy baseball players? Who gives a shit? It's been decades since any "masculine" sports have been at the top (hockey, rugby [never], real wrestling, true football [without all of the pads and BS safety rules]. America's been dead for a very long time if this is your standard.

There are more injuries in football now because of all the pads so its actually more dangerous of a sport now then it was a hundred years ago, besides I bet you havent even played the game. American Pro Football is the second most popular sport in the world behind soccer.

P.S. Baseball isnt a masculine sport anyways lol

Chuck Barris had the right idea 30 years ago when made the Gong Show. The concept of subconciously gunning down bad performers in front of a national audience. It was so much deeper than Simon's belittling average joes and janes on American Idol could be. Great way to give american television culture a much needed cleansing.

Bring back the Gong Show..

I watched the movie, "The Rocket", the other night, about hockey great Rocket Richard. The thing that struck me the most about the depiction of the sport in the 1940's was how much tougher the players were, mentally and physically. These guys worked factory jobs in the daytime and played their games at night, and they didn't complain.

Have I played football? Yes. Do I currently? I'm in school, so I'm kinda pre-occupied, but yes, whenever the opportunity arises. But thank you for jumping to conclusions with no knowing of me.

I've never played with pads, but how exactly would pads make injuries more likely? How about those facemasks? We actually get to see our tough football stars' teeth, unlike in the old days.

Say, how do you feel about all of the dumbass calls and rules for safety such as the 'slam' on Gradkowski? He f***** sacked him, yet there was a penalty for 'roughin the passer'. Is that a 'tough' sport? Bending the rules so that our QB's can't even get a bruise on them without a penalty being called.

And when did I ever say baseball was a masculine sport? If you have any questions as to my thoughts on baseball, just read the first line of my origional post.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'S')o overpaid, hyped prissy dancing stars get more attention than overpaid, hyped prissy baseball players?

Does prissy a part of masculine in your definition?

US football not tough. Well then how did I, at 6'7", 350 pounds, manage to break my back playing the game. And besides my career ending injury I broke my nose twice, numerous sprains and muscle pulls, and too many broken fingers to keep track of. Football isn't a contact sport, it's a high speed collision sport. And, as I was told many, many times, those pads aren’t there to protect me, those pads are there so I can hurt other people.

I must admit that when I played I certainly did enjoy the violence. There just isn’t anything else like two big men lining it up, and getting it on to see who’s the toughest.

Now if you still think football’s not manly enough, why don’t you put on a set of pads and play on either the offensive or defensive line, where real football is played, and come back and tell us how you liked it.

BTW, I must agree on one point. Quarterbacks in the NFL might as well be wearing dresses the way they protect them from being hit these days.

This is easily explained by the fact that baseball sucks. One of the dullest excuses for a sport I've ever seen, with the possible exception of cricket. Broadcast TV sports lost all credibility with me when they stopped showing boxing and started showing hours upon hours of women's golf every Saturday.

You got to get big early in life to have a chance to really play. I didn't cross 150 till I was half way through college; and I was in my mid twenties before I finally got up to 200 lbs.

I did get to play for fun a couple times in college, and there absolutely could not be anything more fun than trying to bust, slip, sneak, crawl, or fly over through or under the offensive line with the mission being to smush a quarterback.

Funny how different folk come out different ways. I was 6'3" and 250 when I was 13.

The best part was when we dressed up and spent a few days at our local high school that year. Since I was wearing a suit and a tie and sitting in an empty class room at the teachers desk one of the Senior hot chicks took me for a substitute teacher and proceeded to stick her tongue down my throat (my very first kiss BTW).

Later that day our whole group went into a class room where she was one of the students, and we were introduced as a group of visiting 7th graders. Not before or since have I seen a girl turn that shade of red. But I was a gentleman and kept our little tryst to myself right up until I got within earshot of one of my buddies.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 't')rue football [without all of the pads and BS safety rules]

I meant by that football played in the good ole days. Just because something was tougher then than now does not mean that it isn't tough now.

And it's not so much football, but not the NFL (as much). Football is tough. It's hard to ever argue that.

My main gripe with the NFL, which I watch religiously (it is on Sundays), is that it is too catered to the overly catered. There is no better example than the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl should be (in any true fan's opinion) real football, since it is the ultimate game. Does real football require perfect settings? Massive hyping? Overproduced spectaculars at pregame, halftime and postgame? I hardly think so. How come we can't ever get a SB in Denver, Chicago, GB, NE, Buffalo or Pittsburgh? Hell, I'd even take Seattle (but don't they have art. turf?) or Cincy.

So why the hell do we always have the SB in Florida, Texas or California or in a dome with artificial turf? Because it makes everything look nice and thus more marketable. Most of the people that watch the SB don't do it for watching football, but to watch an event, bet, be with people, do something collectively. Take away the reason for them to watch it (nice and pretty), then the NFL loses a lot of revenue.

That's a long rant with little substance, sorry.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'w')hy don’t you put on a set of pads and play on either the offensive or defensive line, where real football is played, and come back and tell us how you liked it.

Yeah, I'm sure any coach is dying to get my skinny ass in the trenches.
----
Anyway, the Colts? I haven't seen much of them, but they don't seen too bright this year with Edge gone. Their D has gone downhill from last year. The AFC is pretty weak due to injuries in the North. Denver has a decent shot with that D as long as they either get some offense out of Plummer or put Cutler in. Pats could end up knocking the Colts off in the playoffs; they are always dangerous against Manning.

DaBears and the Pats in... Miami? Go*****, mother****** he**
----
Wait, how can someone like you like the Bears and then also like the Colts? They are completely opposite. Outside-Inside. Defense-Offense. Run-Pass. Is it just geography?

No offense at all. I'm just popping off trying to have some fun and lighten things up a little on this depression laden board, and maybe reliving some of the old glory days.

I mean 100 years from now folks will look back on this a 'Golden Age', and if they have access to what we are writing about here they will just be amazed at how good our lives are and how much we bitched about it.

Of course I must now give an example. About two weeks ago I got an ear infection and since I don’t have insurance I let it go a bit to long before I went to the emergency room. So by the time I decided to go to the ER it was pretty bad. Well I owe this hospital a considerable sum ( I mean we’re talking high 5 figures here) but was I refused help. No. I was taken care of by an excellent doctor who understood I didn't have insurance so he gave me the antibiotics I was going to need.

Then, a few days later, I went to the local health clinic and saw a nurse practitioner who checked my ear and provided me with another course of antibiotics that completely cleared up the infection. All for the grand sum of $15.45. A hundred years ago, or perhaps a hundred years from now, I would have almost certainly died from that infection.

Now I know there are folks on here who will be thinking “Well if he couldn’t pay he should of just died and reduce the excess population” (where is Jack when we need him anyway). But I thank my Gods we live in a time when a simple infection isn’t a killer like infections have been throughout the rest of human existence.

Unlike many on this board I really can’t complain about the life I have lived. I have traveled far, I have seen much. I have partied with hot young ladies on the beaches of California, and I have prayed at the graves of my long dead ancestors. I have made a lot of money, and I had a lot of fun spending it all. I’ve spent a lot of time living in the fast lane, and I’ve spent some time behind some jailhouse bars.
But now I’m just a poor, old broken down guy who is trying to do the best he can for his wife and family.

By Woden’s beard folks. If your young and unattached get out there and have a good time. Life is short and we all have the privilege of living in a time and place that may very well be the zenith of human existence. If your sick of where you live and the job you have grab a handful of Greyhound and get the hell out of there. Drive through town with all the window’s in your truck rolled down blasting out classic rock (hey, if the rappers can do it why can’t I). Just don’t be afraid to take chances, or you could find yourself nearing the end of the road without ever enjoying the ride.

Sorry about going on and on. The new pain meds and muscle relaxers are starting to kick in and I’m feeling pretty good. Now all I need is a shot of Gray Goose and a pipe of good smoke and I’ll be all set.
