As a resident of the homeland of mafia I'm just wondering how this criminal establishment will fare after peak oil. Mafia is not exclusively an italian trademark (and stereotype). There are many mafias, the japanese Yakuza, the Russian, Colombian, Chinese...These organizations can operate worldwide like real multinationals. Usually they are very quick to take advantage of favorable circumstances, switching actions and moving operations where real "business" is to be done. I wouldn't be surprised seeing these cartels involved in massive hoarding/smuggling/blackmarketing of hydrocarbon fuels around the world, getting even richer and more powerful than they are now. Any thoughts?
