There was some interesting math in calculating the position of the planets on their orbits, at a give time, and create some nice maps/charts.
Well ... not something really usefull, but it was some good math exercise.
So once you had gone through the process of determining the positions of the planets, you then knew, er, the position of the planets! Huzzah!
