When Ghandi was asked about what he thought of Western Civilization he replied that he thought it would be a very good idea.

Ghandi was also very racist against blacks. His desire for Indians to be segregated from blacks was so strong that he went to Johannesburg in late August of 1904 to protest the placing of blacks in the Indian section of the city

So Ghandi was racist. I guess nobody's perfect.

Were you alive in the time of Ghandi, rogerhb? And if so, why was he asked such a question about you?

Was just kidding, rog. Glad you fixed it, though. Sure had me scratching my head for a second there.

Oh, I get it (---duh!). Eight days and 1,969 posts!

You're a great member, although I know we don't always see things eye-to-eye. Which is what makes life interesting, after all.

You beat me by about a month. Gotcha covered on the posts though. 8) When I went back to college to get a teaching credential I was subjected to a lot of anti-Western Civilization PC stuff. For me, it is a great treasure from an aesthetic point of view. The achievements have been great indeed. But now we seem to be at the end of the line. It certainly isn't much aesthetically anymore, Pink Floyd notwithstanding. The great scientific discoveries are past us. Wasn't the year of Peak Science supposed to be 1879? But even as we stand poised on the brink, I can't condemn a culture that brought forth such great music and literature. As Jim Morrison said, "The West is The Best". You can't blame Peak Oil on Mozart, can you?

I blame it on The Bossa Nova. It's all Brazil's fault.
