Well, the comments that people wont be going to the big-time sports events, I feel is a little off-base.
What rsch20 said about what he saw on Cinderella man is about right. People do continue to go to the entertainment venues only because it takes them away from reality. It's a lot more acceptable form of escapism than drinking/drugs, so more people will do it.
My dad tells me all the time, that he used to be in long lines back in the early 30's to pay a nickel or so to watch a movie... now what MAY happen is not that the NFL/NBA/NHL/WNBA/MLS et cetera go belly up, but that the costs to keep the seats full will come down. So to keep the fans coming, rather than have the tickets @ 150.00 each, they may be deals and whatnot at first... and as the contracts start expiring, the athletes will be paid less and less - yeah the athletes will be crying about it, but when the money isnt there from ANY team, they'll finally start accepting the lower salaries... which will allow the prices of admission/parking to fall - and you may not see the cross-country games every-other day, but maybe the schedule is w. coast every other day, and e. vs w. coast once a week or something of that sort. Same logic can be applied to movie tickets... So yeah, maybe the quality will fall - the 'bling' will be out of the sports leagues, but there will always be some sort of league, always be some sort of movie theater showing SOMETHING. (unless all power is cut out, then the movies go bye-bye)
But by that point, everything else in our lives will be powered down, so it wont be much of a shock to see the pro's dwindle to a fraction of what they are today...
