Do you have a personality disorder?

Unread postby rsch20 » Mon 03 Jul 2006, 05:56:56

I was taking silly online tests earlier, and came across this 'personality disorder test'.

http://www.4degreez.com/misc/personalit ... er_test.mv

Normally I take these things with a grain of salt, however I was surprised to actually learn some new info from this.

I tested 'very high' for AvPD (Avoidance Personality Disorder), I knew already that I suffer from 'shyness' or 'social anxiety', but after delving deeper into reading about this particular disorder so many things rang true for me that I realized that I do in fact have a personality disorder =p

hopefully now that I'm (more) aware of it I can take more intelligent actions to work it out, and I thought I'd post the link on the off chance it helps someone else have an epiphany too ;)

so, whats wrong with you? :)

You are a geek, sounds like. Don't worry, lots of people are. You don't see them as much because they avoid being seen :-D

You are unique and can not really be pigeon holed into some sort of psycho classification. Sure these tests are interesting and fun sometimes but people that take these tests too seriously are obviously yearning for some sort of identity. You should simply be true to yourself and all others that you care about and you'll be fine. Be wise with the knowledge of life and do not repeat your mistakes. If you feel satisfaction in helping others with your knowledge then communicate it gracefully. Now hop along grasshopper.

IMHO, we are all messed up in some way or another. Unfortunately, most people refuse to accept this, so we end up with what we have today: I'm OK, everyone else is an asshole. This makes it difficult to get any real work done. Forget about resolving any of the long term problems that mankind is facing. It just won't happen. It will only get worse in the years ahead.
We have been brought into the present condition in which we are unable neither to tolerate the evils from which we suffer, nor the remedies we need to cure them. - Livy

There's no way I would take a test like this. I was born with a gregarious extroverted temperament but with hearing troubles which have skewed things for me. Besides, I doan need no steenking test to tell me who I am.

Twentieth Century Schizoid Man

Party of One: The Loner's Manifesto

"Self-reliant, each loner swims alone through a social world—a world of teams, troops and groups—that scorns and misunderstands those who stand apart. Loners know better than anyone how to entertain themselves—and how to contemplate and to create. They have a knack for imagination, concentration, inner discipline, and invention—a talent for not being bored."

I do pretty well at cocktail parties and such and my girlfriend thinks I'm great, but those things don't diminish my basic feeling that people SUCK!!.

I scored very high on several personality disorders until I got diagnosed and treated for Bipolar disorder. So you may not have a personality disorder, you might actually have a mental illness.

Just FYI.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ludi', ' ')So you may not have a personality disorder, you might actually have a mental illness.

Don't they essentially amount to the same thing, Ludi? Or are you suggesting that an illness can be treated, but a disorder cannot? Just seems a semantical distinction to me, but what do I know? :P

Though there is a lot of overlap in symptoms, in general one can say a personality disorder is a developmental problem, a learned way of reacting to the world, whereas a mental illness is in many cases of physiological origin, genetic in the case of Bipolar and Unipolar Depression, and in some or possibly most cases of Schizophrenia.

Both can be treated, but mental illness can not, in general, be "cured." Personality disorders can be cured by relearning one's emotional reactions to situations. Medications can help. Mental illness is usually treated with medications these days, though Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is useful for many people, and sometimes other kinds of therapy.

The rule of thumb they gave us in medical school was that if you meet someone and within a few minutes you find yourself angry or severly irritated because of their behavior, then they probably have a personality disorder of some sort.

Wednesday, you're a Secret Agent!

You're a smart, shrewd loner. Chances are although you prefer solitude; you're a deeply caring person full of energy and ideas. On a personal level, you're sensitive. You may worry too much about how you compare to others, and your mood suffers under such intense personal scrutiny.

You like to eat lunch at your desk. You also have a critical eye that assures your final product is always top rate.

And that's just scratching the surface!
The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.

No. My mom is fundamentalist Christian loonie. No way she would be cool enough to wear combat boots. I've been known to wear combat boots though. :P

The emoticons on the left of the text box, I'm pretty sure, don't click for anybody. If you run your mouse over the emoticon, though, the bar at the bottom of your screen will show the text for the emoticon and you just type it in. Like this....:P
