Gee, the Thawing permafrost could unleash tons of carbon...

"long-frozen soil in Siberia are starting to thaw, and have the potential to unleash billions of tons of carbon and accelerate global warming"...

(sorry, I can't help myself with my sarcasm)

Let me guess, the US will now setup a commission, a congress of experts, maybe get those guys that discovered all those wmd in Iraq, or caught Saddam for doing 9/11, and this new round table of experts can implement more methodologies such as used to manage Enron or Katrina, and these new experts will advise the next incompetent (asshole) US president on how to deal with the melting of Russian permafrost...

I know, they will blame Russia, because Russia can't contain all of America's emissions... NGO money will flow, the next US president will complain about the Siberian melt down and blame it on "democracy"...

(end my sarcasm)

American leaders are criminals. They will use any news trend, stretch it as far as they can for the sake of advancing their hidden agendas. Serious issue like this will be buried in another Cheney comment like "we are being held hostage by Gazprom"... When the real problem is the consumer / demand side...

So many great studies going on, so many great solutions to "peak oil", and yet so far, I expect, and anticipate some dip shit in DC to use it for US hegemony.

The great knowledge and great solutions must wait for these American baby boomers to die off.

Mean while, America will continue to drop her standard of living.

If I can make an analogy: "America farts, it's your nose that's the problem"...

the only thing to slow the melting of the permafrost is the ending of dollar hegemony... this will make oil expensive and finance renewables, conservatrion, population reduction, re-localization, and so forth... But everything must wait till the PNAC is purged.

Damn I just didn't know how all powerful evil America was/is, I can't wait until somebody gets on top so we can start throwing rocks at them, of course they will have to come up with a better plan or maybe just implement ours better.

Funny how people think there is like some giant plan yet as you can plainly see there is always bickring on how things should be done even amongst like minded people.

About global warming Putin joked that it might be benificial for Russia making the place warmer and easier to farm.

Lets see....

1. Positive trade balance.
2. Energy Reserves.
3. Lots of Nukes and advanced weapons. (No ones messing with them directly).
4. Warming weather from a cold climate.

Well I wouldn't rush to live there not being a native Russian. But if you were stuck there thinks look peachy.

lutherquick... It seems like you are overly bitter about something; but I'm having a hard time figuring out what it is.

Russia's starting to do pretty well under great leadership.

The US ain't doin to bad either, at least for now; and if you think our leadership is incompetent, then that says a lot about the underlying strength of the country.

So.. whats the deal?

I think he's realised america's leaders should be justly reprehended, but for some reason thinks Russia or anyone elses are great
How about hating all leaders, it works and you don't have to slander what's good about 'country-that-sucks'
E.G. Hate Bush, love American girls, hate Ahmadinijad, love Iranian girls

Remember hate is in the eye of the beholder !

Loki & others,

Yea, I have a problem with management and US government. It's the institutions I despise, not the individual Americans.

Americans are better than this.
My sarcasm make's this sh!t heap livable.

Once main stream America understand peak oil, then we can get on to fixing it. Until then, I need to change the TV channel as Bush (who got my first vote) makes me vomit.

I worked enough in the corporate world to see such incompetence. There is too much "sophisticated" corruption in America that reminds me of the crap that took down the USSR. "Eloquent" lying like we see with Bush and Rummy and Cheney, it's all the worst of America. But right behind those criminals are good Americans that will fix this cluster fvck. The good and the bad are at both republican and democratic camps.

Right now what's controlling America is the same thinking that was used in scalping Indians, enslaving the blacks, burning witches and creating communists black lists during the 50's.

Most of the world is changing for the better, I expect the same from the US.

Peak oil is real, and needs to be dealt with. And Bush will go down in history as the worst asshole president of all time, Clinton will take the #2 spot. Wrap it all together and blame the baby boomer mentality as an agrigate... no the individuals, but collectivly these trends are killing America. As president Bush is an asshole, but as an individual, he is probably ok, maybe better if he lived in a van down by the river or a trailer park.

I can't stand to listen to Bush either. When he comes on the TV I turn the channel. I never thought that it could come to this in America. I suppose I thought that all those other kids in my generation that were being taught American civics were paying attention. Peak oil doesn't have to threaten the American experiment, but I think this bunch in power right now has called that assumption into question.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('evilgenius', 'I') can't stand to listen to Bush either.

Now, you have a good sense of what others felt about Clinton. I think this is somewhat symptomatic of the red vs blue problem; we've all gotten so repulsed by the leaders on the party opposite that we can't even tolerate listenting to them whine about their positions.

Just as I am sure you feel about Bush, I am absolutely nauseated by the sound of Kerry, Gore, Pelosi, or Reid's voice; and I leap at the clicker to get them off of my TV as quickly as possible.
