I for one, welcome our new insect overlords.
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

Maybe they will intervene and solve our oil problem (anti-gravity systems).

The only creatures that would find significantly easier to reply by flattening a field than by sending a powerful radio signal from a distant planet are creatures that are much closer to the field than to any distant planet.

The aliens probably don't communicate in more direct ways because we are still too primitive culturally. We may have advanced greatly in the past 100 years, but we are still barbarians culturally.

Shouldn't we be concentrating on finding intelligent life ON EARTH before looking for it elsewhere?

I've read a lot of sci-fi and have formed an opinion on this. IF (and that's a big IF) the aliens actually exist, the reason the aliens don't communicate is the same reason that we humans rarely visit undisturbed monkey colonies in remote jungle regions.

1. Earth is probably in a pretty remote spot in the galaxy, relative to where all the advanced alien action is.

2. Our technological capabilities and intelligence are absolutely feeble compared to alien civilizations so we aren't particularly interesting, except for the ocassional naturalists, or planetary surveyors. These specialists would rather not complicate or confuse us by letting us humans know how pathetic we are.

3. There are probably 100s of other intelligent civilizations out there far more interesting than ours that the aliens would rather go visit.

Dreamtwister, regretfully, the fact that we are looking for intelligence "out there" means we didn't find it down here. Those down here think that those out there would visit farm lands to communicate via crop circles rather than send a radio wave, make a phone call, land on the front lawn, etc. For god's sake people we have satellites waiting for them to make a call, we don't need crop circles. We can only hope we find intelligent life out there, bc its not down here.

I actually believe that some crop circles are created by aliens in UFOs. I did some research on crop circles, and what makes them really interesting is the fact that some have no broken stalks. The crops are perfectly bent to the side with no breaks at all. Until someone shows me a device that can do that overnight, I will be completely open to the possibility of UFOs created the crop circles.

Monty Python summed it up guys;
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')henever life gets you down, Mrs. Brown,
And things seem hard or tough,
And people are stupid, obnoxious or daft,
And you feel that you've had quite eno-o-o-o-o-ough...

Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
And revolving at nine hundred miles an hour,
That's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned,
A sun that is the source of all our power.
The sun and you and me and all the stars that we can see
Are moving at a million miles a day
In an outer spiral arm, at forty thousand miles an hour,
Of the galaxy we call the "Milky Way".

Our galaxy itself contains a hundred billion stars.
It's a hundred thousand light years side to side.
It bulges in the middle, sixteen thousand light years thick,
But out by us, it's just three thousand light years wide.
We're thirty thousand light years from galactic central point.
We go 'round every two hundred million years,
And our galaxy is only one of millions of billions
In this amazing and expanding universe.

(Animated calliope interlude)

The universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding
In all of the directions it can whizz
As fast as it can go, at the speed of light, you know,
Twelve million miles a minute, and that's the fastest speed there is.
So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure,
How amazingly unlikely is your birth,
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space,
'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth.

You know I kinda hope there aren't aliens out there. I have no urge to get chased around by an alein that yells CRIKEY as he sticks his tentacles down my throat and shoves a camera in my face.

Nope, these crop circles are not made by any hoax'ers. The genetic makeup of the crops are changed and are interwoven in such a way that baffles the experts, besides the speed in which they are produced is simply amazing.

They're all made by hoaxers. Every one, without exception.

In some cases it's "performance art", in others it's to drum up tourism. Over the years the artist/hoaxers have developed marvellous techniques, advancing the work to new heights.

The "genetic makeup" changes are a myth. It's part of the hoax. No such thing actually occurs.
