Hey, how about the decade of preparation of our governments to install martial law, to deal with force to panic and disaster.
911 were a fine drill and the total terror war a fine excuse to insure plenty luxery seats on Titanic till the end of party time.

The soap is still on the telly, next episode will be the economy drowning in shit, fear and panic.

I don't think the masses will ever get it. They will participate in the "die off" cursing everything and everyone except for the real sources of problems with their last breath.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Zardoz', '
')We should start cataloging the types of reactions people have to the PO concept. We can expect the above to be a common one. It isn't really denial, but more of a deliberate ignorance. The poor guy just doesn't want to think about it quite yet.

I find it easy to convince people of PO. Bottle of coke is the earth, the coke is oil of course if we keep drinking eventually we'll run out.

Convincing people that we'll run out soon is hard.
Convincing people that alternatives are a pipe dream at the moment is harder.
Hardest of all is convincing people of what the effects are likely to be when we run out. Even my wife who is fully on board doesn't put together and refuses to accept the end result of the vast majority of food only being available thanks to fossil fuels.

I suppose die off is really hard on the mind if you're an optimist.
shame on us, doomed from the start
god have mercy on our dirty little hearts

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('SoothSayer', 'I') recently mentioned Peak Oil in a phone call to a friend . . . and as soon as he got the general idea he slammed the phone down after saying No, don't tell me
Same thing happened to me once. I told this Physical Education coach in his office where I was as a substitute coach that day about peak oil and he yelled at me and got red saying, "I can't afford to worry about the price of oil". My point is that all the denial which is the majoritarian point of view now will be held only by diehards after a big shift which is bound to happen sooner or later.
