As far as I know he isn't blind, but he is very old and in poor health, on medication poor guy, so he might not live much longer. :( But he has achieved world fame, so his memory will live on.

At least he's in a very loving home, from what I read on his website. When I first saw his picture, I thought the poor thing had mange! But I guess it's just his breed - he's a purebred Chinese Crested dog, and that's the way they look. He's also old, so that's probably why he's blind.

Does PenultimateManStandings' Avatar Load for You?

Unread postby Lokutus » Fri 19 May 2006, 17:51:11

I haven't seen it since Fall 2005.

I once clicked "Show Picture" for a half hour without any luck.

That should read "Leap Year".

Nope.

But I see him to the left sometimes under "Peakoil.com is You!".

He kind of reminds me of this guy:

I tried to put in a new one once, and nothing worked. I couldn't undo it so I gave up.

This forum's program has avatar problems. Do not use a link that starts with "URL". Use the "direct" link from your hosting service that starts with "http" and put it in the "Link to off-site Avatar" window in Avatar Control Panel. Works absolutely every single time.

What hosting service are you using?

What, I'm supposed to vote for "every leay year"? Soon as I get some music onto tape, I'm going to reformat my hard drives and then maybe I can put up a new avatar.

I uploaded my avatar to PO.com. Works every time.

Sometimes the avatar loading times out though. Then I have to hit the refresh button in my browser to get them to load.

I actually don't know why I made this post...

I have Cox if that's what you mean. I used to be able to load from my own pictures in MyPictures which is how I put up my avatars. For instance, I had an abstract-expressionist painting by Kline that looked like vaguely like scarred metal remnants of some burned-out city. I'm not sure what you mean using direct links from my hosting service. Is hosting service the same as ISP? Anyway, you've given me enough to try and put up a new avatar later when I've got more time.

Can someone dig up Crumb's three visions of the future? It had three pictures placed vertically. One showed the aftermath of complete collapse. The middle showed the techno-weinie's wet dream with flying cars. The bottom was of an ecotopia with hippies walking or cycling through lush green parks.
What will arrive first? Peak Oil or the Second Coming? My money is now on the latter.

PMS new avatar

Unread postby Schweinshaxe » Fri 19 May 2006, 19:54:17

Well, I dont know...

Background: After almost a year of avatar trouble, our friend PMS has finally managed to get an avatar to load next to his unbeatable 5000 something post record. Lokutus started a thread in which PMS (after consulting a few of the computer literate members of this board) finally got some help. And then we got... this...

I'm sorry PMS, but your new avatar doesn't... hmmm... rock...

How can we help him?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('PenultimateManStanding', '.').I'm not sure what you mean using direct links from my hosting service...

Image

This is a screenshot from the free Web image hosting service I use ("Imageshack"). There are tons of others. Google "web image hosting". Pick whichever one is easiest for you to use.

Note the six different versions of the image that you can use. The top one is a typical hosting program link with an IMG, for a full-sized image. The circled one at the bottom is the "direct" version for a small thumbnail that must be used on this forum as an avatar because of the bug (if it is, in fact, a bug).

Other services have different control panels, of course, and different options. Imageshack is not exactly user-friendly at first. Click on "Common Questions" at the top of the page if you want to use it...
