The right to survive is a fundamental human right

Unread postby ohanian » Thu 18 May 2006, 19:44:20

In the old days...

Every human have the right to survive. If you kill another human because otherwise you will die, then you are justified in your actions because it is a fundamental human right.

Next came the rise of the god given "Self Entitlement".

So today we have.

Every human have the right to survive in their very own lifestyle. If you kill another human because otherwise your lifestyle will die, then you are justified in your actions because it is a fundamental human right.

================================

Remember, only survivors are able to write books on ethics. Dead men write no books.

I'm not sure I'd use the word 'right'. Human rights are a moral, political or cultural concept.

Every human can attempt to survive by competing, but that's no different on an animal, plant or bacterial level, and has been going on since the dawn of time. Competing means out doing the other guy, and yes, that may include killing him and taking his stuff.
Beware the deadly bulb!

As askaninja says, "YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO DIE"

As we all know, morals, culture, rights are merely opinions, and change from place to place.

There are no rights, only opportunities for survival.

Survival is its own justification.

Humans can compete, cooperate, or engage in symbioses; all of which are within agreed rule-sets. Or they can violate the agreed rules and engage in parasitism or predation against other humans, and risk paying the penalties.

The right to survive: I would take that beyond "human rights" and talk about "mammal rights." The right to make a nest: make, as in, directly with one's hands, not indirectly as mediated by a mountain of paperwork and the artifice of money. The right to hunt, gather, and engage in agriculture on the scale of one's labor alone or with one's kin (however each person defines their kin). The right to keep one's body clean, and one's mind open to new knowledge. The right to form social bonds for mutual defense and for other purposes beyond the capacity of a single individual.

I could go on....

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he right to survive is a fundamental human right

Yeah, but you would be amazed at what you can survive through. Then you have survivor guilt if its a big enough calamity. Surviving isn't always its own reward, sometimes its more of a curse.
