The Stupidest Thing I Have Ever Seen

Unread postby Madpaddy » Thu 18 May 2006, 05:28:38

Living in Ireland you may rightly presume that I have seen many wacky, wonderful and funny things in my time. However, recently, I was confronted with the stupidest thing that I have ever seen.

I brought my family to the beach last Sunday to take advantage of a rare appearance of the sun in the skies over my windswept and rainwashed isle. We were having a nice picnic, playing ball with the children - the usual pleasant stuff when I noticed that a car parked nearby had the engine running. Twenty minutes later the engine was still running and I took a closer look. There was a man inside - initially I thought he might have committed suicide but as this tale unfolds you will realise that this act would have been beyond the car occupants capabilities.

I knocked on the window of the car to see if the man was alright and to point out that his engine had been running for at least 30 minutes (by this time). He told me that he was just drying the beach towels on the bonnet of the car.

Can anybody beat this tale of wastefulness and stupidity.

haha. Well, at least he didn't have a Hummer.

The worst I have seen was a few years ago I would go over to this one friend's house that was in the neighborhood. Another one of my friends was right across the street and whenever he came over, he would drive the 20 ft to the other side of the street. Pretty typical American I guess, not horrible, but bad I guess.

Maybe he was worried about getting hit by a car crossing the street. :)

At my previous residence in suburbia, I once had the pleasure of viewing my neighbor immeidately on our right side start up his heavy-duty truck (American-made, of course) and drive to the driveway of our neighbor immediately on our left, get out and talk for fifteen minutes (with the engine idling), then get back into the truck and drive back to his own driveway.

Five minutes later the other neighbor drove his four-wheeler across our lawn to the other guy's house.

Every time I hear some suburbanite moaning "I have no choice, I have to drive a car," I think of this little episode. I only wish this actually was the stupidest thing I've ever seen.

Never underestimate the stupidity of the human animal. Jevon's paradox indeed.

It looks like stupidity, but it's really simple, that guy was in love with his shiny 4by4. Which means he would get really pissed off if anyone came between him and his shiny, colorful truck, sort of like how the whole country will react pretty soon. The song will be, "nuke 'em! get the gas!" To the tune of Devo's "Whip it":

There's something going on
You must nuke em
Gotta get the gas
You must nuke em

Get it straight
To go forward
to get the gas
You must nuke em

NUKE EM GET THE GAS!
GO FORWARD

you forgot one suicidal thing... THERE IS NO PLAN B!
Some areas truly need napalm and cluster bombing.
You speak truth about humanoids and their machines.
Also you forget these noids have a hard time walking and doing thingz without the help of their slave machine. Very much like the Borg. The machines are actually part of grays anatomy.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('mekrob', '.')..he would drive the 20 ft to the other side of the street. Pretty typical...

I would hardly call that "typical".
The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.

Yep, 25 ft would be nearer to typical I would say.

I'm glad you got a laugh. We may only get to laugh easy for a while longer. They say that humor has to be based in truth to be funny. I think Americans are head over freaking heels in love with their cars. It's a passionate, deep love, and this country will fight to keep them, right up to and including using nukes. NUKE EM! The stupidest thing I've ever seen?

I think this is could be one of those deals Lorenzo is promoting:

The ironic thing is, war seems to waste and lose more energy than you get from fighting the war to steal the energy. Its like the ancient symbol of a snake eating itself

Its ridiculous to me when somedody slaps those "support our troops" stickers on their hummer, escalade, or excursions.

One of the best ways to support the troops is to ride a bicycle.

I don;t think the stickers themselves actually cost that much energy. Like I said, they would make sense on a bicycle
