Gold reached over $696 this morning. I guess Buffett can't talk down the price of that commodity, either. Talk about an over-rated investment authority.

By the way, cool name, I hate religion. I hate to be the one who nailed it, actually I enjoy it

The ultra secret Iran letter is all over the news! Pretty crafty how they didn't give much info on it until a day later, how suspense building!

It is about to hit $700 any second now. I am already out of my stocks today, cha-ching! This psychological barrier could provoke a sell-off pretty soon, who knows, lets take bets! I have a feeling a big sell-off will happen tomorrow, midday. If not then a big sell-off won't happen until $750.

BTW, keep an eye on (sil), this little bugger can really move! Yeeehaa!

His words can't (poof!) magically suppress the prices for oil and gold, no matter how much money and prestige he has.

Anyone know why (ERS) took such a big fall? It bounced back today, but I was weary that something else is at play so I didn't get in. Just wondering.

Berkshire stock has flatlined since the end of 2003. And a big part of the portfolio is in property & casualty insurance---a very troubled industry, given global warming and growing associated weather-related risks. A trend he completely overlooked.

Yes, the guy is smart and has some great business principles, but going forward he's just another dinosaur that the post-PO economy will finish off.

What the beer guy said, Buffet had his hands full with the Katrina fiasco. I think that is probably the number one reason he is shopping around. Of course he has made some smart investment decisions or else we wouldn't be talking about him. I think he got some of his money in sugar early on, but this was a no-brainer: ethanol + sugar cane + commodities bull market = sugar goes higher. I really think his statements concerning gold were a diversion to keep the market unsettled, and to grab the spotlight for his new investments. He was well aware of the Iran letter contents before the citizenry were made aware. He is a man in a position of power, of course he knew.

GOLD has broken $700!

Buffet is clearly an astute investor. He however has areas he is particularly skilled in, like buying bargain companies with the view that they will perform in a 10-20 year timeframe.

The problem he as well as most of the investment community may have with gold/silver is that it is not yet commonly acknowledged that a handful of bullion banks are 10,000+ tons short the gold and stacks silver and that will help rocket the price up.
Although empirical evidence has been produced, supporting official short figures are available from TOCOM and the evidence has been clearly accepted by institutions such as bank Chereraux (see credit agricole report on gata.org)

Buffet will also suffer from a dollar collapse. He is to some extent hedged but not completly. Supporting gold/silver now would speed up the dollar collapse, so it is currently not in his direct interest.

Meanwhile the bullion banks will fight hands and teeth to keep the metal prices down as they are otherwise doomed.
The new silver eft can unfortunatelly be such a tool as it is managed by some huge silver bears.
i.e. silver held in the Silver EFT can be leased out to be used in short selling.
So expect volatility and then at some point a commercial failure when the price explodes.

There she goes over $724 right into the sunset, ain't she purdy. C'mon someone take a stab at the next correction. I say $750. What is most amusing is that Helicopter boy decided to lay off of the "pause in rates" comments this time around. Smart on his part, but unfortunately, a little too late. I think the gold bugs smell blood and they know they got the dollar backed into a corner.

How would you spend Buffet's money?

Unread postby NeoPeasant » Mon 26 Jun 2006, 22:42:00

If you were in charge of the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation money, how would you use it to prepare people for, or reduce the severity of the consequences of Peak Oil?
You never know. After all Bill Gates has admitted to reading "Twilight in the Desert" in a television interview.

Question is how fast will the Gates foundation sell off their stock before the crash?

They're not stupid, this "philanthropy" can't be for building schools in the future.

Heheh, I thought the same thing when I heard about him giving away all his stock. It's not gonna be worth much of anything soon so why not give it back to "the people" and take credit for being a charitable god among men before TSHTF lol.

Massive ads on global issues.

A third of it to buy critical habitat to prevent further species extinctions similar to what Nature Conservancy and WWF does.

Another third on family planning and population reduction measures.

The last third on education and research globally to convince public, corporate leaders and governments of the importance to create bridges toward a sustainable future.
