Re: Scientists Discover (Biggest Ever) Oil field off U.S. co

This would be great news if it was 1947 back when this area was first discovered.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')t all started in 1947, when Kerr-McGee made the first Gulf discovery at Ship Shoal 32, about 10 miles off the Louisiana coast in 18 feet of water. The firm is credited with setting the first offshore platform in the Gulf at its new field.

Next we will hear about a great new oil field found in Texas

This thread should not be merged it should be deleted.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Richard', 'T')he article was posted four times? Each by a new member?

Something suspicious....almost as if it were created especially to be posted on this site?!!!

Can't be coincidental. Do we smell a big ol' rat, or what?

Has anyone heard about this big lawsuit against the big oil companies?

Something about John Walling's heirs or something.

Old news? No big deal? A total f@3KING scam by a troll?

I think you may be right. :) I heard back from the guy. Here's what he sent me...

Cool! I got a response back.

Robin,

Thanks for emailing the check. It is much too good to be true. I don't know how they got this. It's really made up with just a few words that are true. I've received quite a few inquiries. My response is pasted below.

Larry Cathles

I have not succeeded in getting to the html many people have sent me, but Cornell sent me the text pasted below, which I believe is the same. I have received quite a flurry of email like yours.

The article is complete news to me and a most amazing fabrication. No such field has been discovered as far as I know, and certainly it has not been discovered by me. My students and I have worked on gas washing and suggested it might be useful in exploration, and calculations I have done suggest a lot of oil has been generated and mostly expelled in the Gulf, and the little that is retained could be substantial (article in The Leading Edge, August 2004, p. 760ff; Gas Tips, 2003, v. 9, p. 25 ff). It's no news to say the Gulf is a promising area for exploration. I have in the past received funding from Chevron, but none for exploration. So there are aspects of what is said that have some validity. But I have not made any "discovery" of the kind described and all the details (60 billion bbls, 10,000 square miles, the quotes etc.) are completely made up as far as I know, and certainly did not come from me.

This it the text I am responding to:

Unless 60 billion means 60 million barrels....
All it takes is a single typo.
I've seen reports make mistakes before, some say millions over billions.

Guys, it's clear now this is an AD SCAM.

I got alerted to this on my blog even, it's obviously getting everywhere and is complete bollocks with a bunch of ads on the site - someone's making money out of all these links, and they are being put out there deliberately.

100 Tcf of "deep gas" off the Louisiana coast?

Unread postby copious.abundance » Tue 24 Aug 2010, 21:15:57

Deep gas in shallow water.

Abundance - what a concept!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'M')offett was giddy in his presentation because it is vindication for his long held view that there is an “old city under the newer city, as in an archaeological dig” which will yield a major play for his company and his partners and shareholders. The rock appears to have very high porosity of 25% or more, akin to the partners’ amazing 200 foot discovery at Davy Jones early this year. The significance of that is the ability of the hydrocarbons to flow out of the rock and up to the surface.

When this play started, early estimates were that the group might be make discoveries that would yield 10 TCF (trillion cubic feet of gas). Along the way, with the discovery of Davy Jones, Blueberry Hill last month with more than 100’ of pay and now two discoveries at Blackbeard East and West, Moffett floated a number today of 100 TCF of reserves.
