which, in the past has almost always occurred at the top or bottom. So, if my history is any guide, sell gold and silver, sell oil, buy the dollar and prepare to vote republican in November as it's 'morning in America' again.

After hearing about gasoline shortages in parts of the USA with no natural disaster, I'm starting to get the "oh shit" feeling too.

The collapse is beginning. Where are all the soft landers now? Trying to reassure us for no good reason than to feel good.

Cat: Forget red - let's go all the way up to brown alert!
Kryten: There's no such thing as a brown alert sir.
Cat: You won't be saying that in a minute! And don't say I didn't alert you!

never heard of the brown alert before, that's pretty good: it's for when the crap is flying all over the place after impacting a rapid rotary air circulation device.

The pirate Captain stood at the wheel of his ship. He looked over the horizon and noticed a Navy cutter heading towards him. He turned to his first mate and said

"First mate, bring me my red shirt. We're going to be boarded."

A ferocious battle ensues. After the pirates repel the Navy boarding attempt, the first mate asks the captain "Why did you have me bring you a red shirt?"

"Because If I were wounded and the men saw me bleeding, they might lose morale and the ship could be lost. A red shirt would hide the blood stains."

Just then, a shout from the crow's nest drew the captain's attention.

"4 more Navy cutters, 6 miles off the starboard bow, captain!"

The captain turned to his first mate and said "Fetch me my brown trousers."

Oil, oil everywhere, I guess, as the price has taken a dive since my original post ( 75.17 to 71.20 currently). Gold is a slight loser and silver a slight winner (from then to now). But, it's the dollar that’s most alarming; wow, taking a hit even as interest rates edge higher.

If the dollar gives up now, we’re in a whole new ball game.

Sort of off topic, but, just spoke to a Frenchman here on business. He’s met some of our so- called leaders now in Bagdad, says they’re as stupid as a box of rocks – couldn’t even walk across the street to buy a loaf of bread, as he put it… says we’re in deep shit for decades, even centuries, as the Arabs never forget. As long as we have the power, we’ll be OK. But the moment we don’t, that’s when they’ll strike with a vengeance...

...like when our war machine runs short of gas.

The implications of an impotent America scares me as much as the present retarded bully model. If America goes the way of the dinosaurs we have over a billion Chinese tree shrews actively pursuing natural resources and liebenstraum. That would be a pretty horrifying imbalance to address, and something tells me the Chinese elite aren't into sharing, caring and mediation as an approach. I'm thinking more Atilla the Hun, than Buddha. Very scary

...means "dream of love", I think what you meant is "Lebensraum".

As for the Chinese, I am rather afraid what happens if their dream of the American way of life doesn't come true.
I vividly remember some TV documentary about a Ferrari driving through China, and the interviewed Chinese peasants were very convinced that one day every one of them would own one of them Ferraris, or an equivalent.
What happens if 1 billion dreams are shattered? Because if they think they have nothing worth to live for anymore, they might still have something to die for. Chinese nationalism is rampant, and I think actively supported by the regime to sort of replace the old communistic ideology. China über alles.

As for the USA, I wouldn't be concerned about an external threat. As Bogey said in Casablanca:"Let them just try to take certain districts of New York..."

At least from the outside a collapse from within looks much more likely, a "second civil war" (there is even a movie).
From the outside it looks like the only thing that holds the country really together is money (or hope to lead a better life one day, or at least have the children having it better...)

Liebenstraum and lebensraum together could potentially mean 3 billion Chinese. That's even worse!

I'm in Canada and worry that the Chinese govt. will just load several million onto boats and have them walk into Canada. There's not a darn thing we could do about it, without American intervention.

Oh I see, I didn't get that angle. Well I think even if the US totally imploded and lost the will or capability to operate nukes, there would still exist some other nuke-power who wouldn't like that, if only because they want the vast space of Canada for themselves...

You mean like how Mexico unloaded 20 million Mexicans into my country? Right now the US is not doing anything about that... and your next. If they don't respect my border they won't respect yours.

If a million Chinese wanted to get on boats for Canada, we'd already be in it deep. Remember, the Chinese are holding down world inflation all by themselves. What exactly would all of these people would do in Canada anyways?

I'm not thinking a quick trip to Employment Canada to take a look at the job board. Rape, murder, pillage and resource extraction come to mind. Why should they be any different than any other hegemonic power?

Yes you got it, but only half of it, you can recombine the words "Liebenstraum" and "Lebensraum" (dream of love and space for life) to "Liebensraum" and "Lebenstraum" (space for love and dream of life) - that's why I translated it above, to avoid confusion.

Why does nobody get my jokes - the personality test was right, I must be a schizzo after all :(

Here you go!

It's more of a comedy film, and plays the militia/heartland vs. Feds/Pentagon and anti-latino/immigration tune. Quite good if you ask me, but since I am not American I would be curious about your judgments after you have seen it...

There are nice camping spots, Moose to see, and ski areas. Lots of beatiful drives, and...

Hey Canada should open the borders for China and get as many people coming in to buy 2 dollar a liter gas and tour the country.

Rice doesn't grow in canada, so there shouldn't be too many worries.
