hey, all

does anybody know the ramp up time to drill for oil in the gulf? say canis_lupus amalgamated fuels incorporated wanted to drill for oil off the coast of texas. from the moment i apply for the permit to the first full barrel of oil flowing down a pipeline to the refinery, how long does it take to:
~ get a permit
~ prep the site
~ design a rig
~ hire the people
~ acquire the funding
~ drill
~ etc.

i suppose it looks like this:

with gas prices as high as they are and people saying there's so much more oil in the ground, how long does it take to get at it?

followup:

how long does it take to build a refinery?

disclaimer: i'm a short / sharp / shocking decline type of peakoiler who's halfway ready to bugout.

thanks for any info

None of this is a fast process. It's taken 100 years to get to this point.

My company is working on a pipeline going from (roughly) winslow to phoenix arizona. It's been a year, and the cultural resources people are about to start the digs. All total, it will take 5 years to build a 175 mile pipeline.

A gas well in the 4-corners takes about 6 months to drill. Probably takes over a year to complete the project.

A coal burning power plant, with the afiliated mine, my guess is 5 years.

Environmental permits take about 6 months to a year to get, afer the application is complete. Getting to the application stage can take several years.

I've heard it takes the steel mill months just to manufacture the pipe for a pipeline.

So, just to emphasize, it's taken thousands of people working around the clock over 100 years to get to this point. It's a slow, expensive process.

If you have lots of time and money you WILL be succesful.

After the easter egg hunt if a child then starts to look for the eggs that weren't found, and he looks under every bush, he will finally be succesful.

Each well is an amount, and if you drill enough you'll find a little prize.

but to make money, not vwery likely, but possible.

But there IS a place that HAS lots of oil....

it is right after the California gusher era, they refused to drill in WELL KNOWN area.

right off the coast of california, there are documented huge reserves.

I bet they will finally allow it there, it is like totally illegal now.

solong seals and birds.
