Here in Idaho it's been a very pleasant spring. We're sitting at about 120% of normal precipitation, a little short on thunderstorms (I love thunderstorms) just regular old rain storms, kinda reminds me of western Oregon. Winter was also above normal precip and we had a huge thunderstorm on Dec 29th and 60 degrees, normal high for December is around 30...

Low population, lot's of decent jobs, lots of rivers, hydro power, gas is still $2.32 for regular. I think I'll stay...

Oh yeah, the downside...Every time a high school is built, a mor(m)on church goes up across the street, there's LOT'S of them around here...These guys are almost as scary as southern baptists/evangelicals/born agains...

There was actually a study done a couple of years ago - the safest place in terms of natural disasters turned out to be the western MA, western CT area. Seismically stable, shielded from hurricanes, the strong thunderstorms are usually kept at bay by marine air there, and the winters are not quite the deadly ones found elsewhere.

The area is well-watered. The natural world there is very productive. While it's not conducive to cash crop farming, one could really have a diversified natural production there.
