Yes, they are only supposed to be used by police, firefighters, and ambulances. But anyone can buy one.

I think they do make those cable descrambler boxes still, but I don't anywhere near the spam about them that I used to. Probably everyone's switched to fake satellite TV cards now...

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Zardoz', 'W')ill whoever is holding down the fast-forward button please lift their thumb off it and give us a god-damned break!?!?

Peak Oil in 2006, global warming scenarios unfolding decades earlier than expected, power outages popping up all over, resource wars staging worldwide, Peak Gas, Peak Uranium, Peak Metals, Peak Water, Peak Fish, etc., etc., etc.

This is getting ridiculous! How they hell are we going to make any sort of smooth transition at this crazy rate!?

Really things aren't moving any faster then predicted by some. Society just didn't like hearing that answer and eventually found someone else that said either these things won't happen, technology will make them non events or they will happen way in the future. We collectively stuffed our heads in the sand and decided to try for a few more percent of growth rather then make the expensive changes that we should have.

Now as crisis upon crisis start piling up and prepair to topple over on us we are realizing that things are connected, we can't just do as we please with no reguard to the consequences and the time to correct things is rapidly slipping away.
shame on us, doomed from the start
god have mercy on our dirty little hearts

Well, that's more like admitting you have a problem.
That's the first step, you know.

Of course if you ask anyone from Austin the center of the rainbow is burnt orange. That's because in Austin, UT is the center of the universe.
:-D

Then again if you asked a handfull of poli-sci or sociology majors at UT you would not get a clear answer. They can't seem to agree on what the proper order of colors on the rainbow. In fact it's worn out subject for Graduate Thesises.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('BrownDog', 'O')ne of the traffic lights was out on the way home, though I only suspect that it is related. As you might guess, traffic was really backed up. Nobody was directing traffic, and I saw three near-accidents in just a few minutes.

It's a warm day, but it's going to get hotter in TX. This isn't good.

Yes, it will get hotter, and the power plants currently off-line for maintenance will be humming along to power your air conditioner.

Power plants do their maintenance outages in the spring and autumn, when demand is lowest. A widespread heat wave during this period is unfortunate, but hardly the end of civilization. Most of you Mad Max Peak Oiler’s are absolutely nuts!!

About the only thing everyone agrees on is Stevie Ray Vaughn. Unless you assert that Texas Flood was a better album than Family Style.
You staying cool down there EB? TXU said we need to cut back on our power usage, but I'm afraid tommorow we will read about Aggies getting electrocuted cutting down power lines.

 Yeah, I'm staying cool. I'm actually hoping for a power outage, I could go home early and cool off under the big tree in the backyard. No AutoCad for me today!

I thought rainbows could go in any order depending from your angle and atmospheric conditions. There sometimes can be all red rainbows or some othe color or just two colors etc.

Oh come on now Ludi, I know that 100% of Texans are not homogeneous bible thumping conservative republicans, but look who gets elected in this state. When I say solid red state it's with a bit of wink in my eye. As in the majority. This state is just as solid red as California or New York is solid blue.

I'll be the first to be critical of Rick Perry for his mediocrity and disappointment of Kay Bailey Hutchinson's callowing on immigration but the reality is they are both going to slide back in November. The only Democrat that gets press in Texas is Shirley Lee Jackson and that's usually for sticking her foot in her mouth again. If the dems have a plan or platform I sure don't know about it. Maybe they left it on the bus in New Mexico.

Where are the brownouts/outages?

Unread postby Pablo2079 » Mon 17 Jul 2006, 09:56:07

With a heatwave hitting more than 2/3rds of the US, where are the outages?

Seems like we would be hearing more regarding the power grid. I did a quick search and haven't found anything remarkable.

Power was out for about 5 hours yesterday in parts of southeast Michigan. Not sure why.
