It's very interesting to me to me to see the tide turning in the USA on a great number of issues. According to polls, better than 80 percent of Americans think the 911 investigation was bullshit, roughly 50 percent think Bush should be impeached, better than 60 percent believe we don't belong in Iraq and that the war was a mistake. 70 percent think illegal immigration is a big problem. Even PO has poked it's head into the mainstream with Fox movies and CNN documentaries.
I was thinking this afternoon that since neither the Dems nor the Repugs represent the views of the 'average' American anymore that the time is becoming ripe for the appearance of a centralist third party to appear. The problem is that I tried to think of some way of 'fixing' the things in the system that the elites have setup over the last 5 decades, and I see almost no possibility of success.
For example, you leave Iraq now, and you end up with a Civil War. You deport the 11 million illegals and you get some huge inflation along with reduced civil rights as everyone will need to prove they are entitled to be here. Bush getting impeached wouldn't matter much
but most of the rest of these issues are so FUBAR right now that no individual, no popular uprising of any kind has a chance in hell of changing the path we are on in any way that could be considered significant, especially considering the range of truly serious issues which are right around the corner (climate change PO, etc.)
I would dearly love to see a thrid party alternative, and I am totally convinced that their appearance is inevitable - however, I am equally convinced that Americans will only resort to supporting a third party when the handwriting is already on the wall in permanent magic marker.
How about the rest you ? When the third party appears, what problems will they endeavor to solve, what tactics will they use and what chance of succes do you think they will have ?
