My PO awareness has turned me into a Neocon. Two or so years ago, I was unaware. At some point in time, I swallowed the red pill passed down to me on this site, which I'm now convinced is run, operated, and financed by Dick Cheney (AKA Aaron) and Don Rumsfeld (AKA Energyspin).
Its been a crazy, depressing change, but now I'm fully invigorated. Once a person finally accepts PO, that it is imminent and the end of the world as we know it, then one can fully grasp and accept what Cheney/Rum, and the PNAC and Neocons are doing - as Cheney says, deficits don't matter. Bottom line is, the Neocons, on a national scale, are doing exactly what it takes to make sure the US survives PO - Build a huge army even if it means massive deficits, build lots of basis in the ME, pass the Patriot Act, build detention facilities, etc. Remember, deficits don't matter if its game over in the next few years. All that matters is who has the most guns - the American way of life is not negotiable. If there is a die-off, as Patton would say, make sure the other poor dumb bastard dies for his country.

I beg to differ - what you are describing is what TPTB would do if they thought, oh say, the American Way of Life were non-negotiable. It appears to me to be the antithesis of what a country (or a person) would do if they wanted to survive.
Scale down for a second - once we grok PO, what does an average Joe do to try to survive PO ? They reduce debt, reduce expenditures, reduce energy use, store up vital resources, and try to arrange mutual cooperation-defense pacts with like minded folks.
This is nothing different then what the USA should be doing if the neocon nutcases were not in charge of the asylum.
If we scaled down our neocon-led country to a PO'er level - it would be like my reacting to PO by blaming everything bad thing that happens to me on MonteQuest, and trying to blow up Aaron's house (if he has a house) to get revenge.
Not a very successful SURVIVAL strategy.

You can also look at it this way... The US (Neocon, or whatever) is positioning it's self to benefit from oil decline. Mind you there is no real benefit but only to lose the least. I think the intent is to increase the gap of the haves and have nots on a global scale not unlike what is happening inside the US.
How many of you invest with oil decline in mind. Are you not trying to take advantage of the situation to at least reduce your losses for you and your family who you are beholden to protect and support?
The administration is doing what it feels is the most benefit to the US in the long run. Not many people here feel oil decline is going to be pretty and the POTUS is responsible only to the US people... kept that in mind.
