So you think you could run a country?

Unread postby k_semler » Sun 05 Mar 2006, 22:56:20

http://www.nationstates.net So, you think your policies would make for a better country? Think you can be a "benevolent dictator" better then the government we currently have? Prove it! Run your own eCountry! It's actually sort of fun, and you can join the UN too, (for you globalist types). Here's the description of my country.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he Armed Republic of ****r is a huge, devout nation, remarkable for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 220 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The minute government, or what there is of one, concentrates mainly on Law & Order, although Defence and Religion & Spirituality are secondary priorities. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Automobile Manufacturing industry, followed by Arms Manufacturing and Retail.

Citizens drive tank-like vehicles with mounted machine guns, record sales of 'child-whacking sticks' have been recorded, the government spends millions of Troy Ounces every year prosecuting spammers, and the mining industry is making inroads into environmentally sensitive areas. Crime is a serious problem. ****'s national animal is the Bear, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Troy Ounce.

*** is ranked 12th in the region and 112,112th in the world for Healthiest Nations.

Yes, I'm working on the crime problem. I noticed it jumped dramatically soon after abolishing the school system.

Looks like a thinly gilded marketing ploy to me.

Mandantory firearms ownership has been instituted. Also, civilians are allowed to own ANYTHING they want. Including armored suburbans with dual 1919A4 if they want them. :) I just have to figure out how to pass laws without legislature proposal. I could fix it in a jiffy if I was Supreme Master. :)

Next step is random stop and search to confirm that people are carrying their weapons loaded. Charge people who aren't packing a piece with "breach of the peace".

Here's mine:

http://www.nationstates.net/the_unabomber

UN Category: Left-wing Utopia

The Armed Redneck Republic of The Unabomber is a massive, environmentally stunning nation, notable for its absence of drug laws. Its hard-nosed, intelligent population of 3.319 billion are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whoever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, liberal individuals juggles the competing demands of Education, the Environment, and Public Transport. Income tax is unheard of. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

Heavy industry must go to expensive lengths to dispose of waste and avoid even more costly cleanup costs, corporations are forbidden from employing outside the nation, citizens are enjoying a recent large cut in taxes, and the The Unabomber Automotive Racing Series draws millions of spectators annually while those near the tracks complain about the noise. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. The Unabomber's national animal is the alligator, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Hemp-paper Dollar.

I've also passed legislation allowing all citizens to own firearms, legislation banning cameras in public space, and legalization of marijuana.

And no taxes.

Do you mean "eye in the sky" surveillence cameras, or just Joe Schmoe with a digicam? Because if you mean the latter, I think you may find your tourism suffering...:-D

It is, but it's still quite fun, and opens new doors too. Not only do you have to take into consideration your peronal politics, but also defense, domestic security, and economy. You also have to decide what would make the population most happy. I love this game, primarily because it is the closest to POTUS that I will ever get.

Interesting to see a few others from here are over there. Every few months it seems somebody over there stumbles across the PO concept and is like "oh crap..."

SimNewtonia II by the way. I mainly haunt the General forums. I don't focus on the actual game much...

The Rogue Nation of Schweinland-Pfalz:

Image

The Rogue Nation of Schweinland-Pfalz is a tiny, environmentally stunning nation, renowned for its devotion to social welfare. Its compassionate, cynical population of 5 million are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it devotes most of its attentions to Social Welfare, with areas such as Law & Order and Defence receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 74%, and even higher for the wealthy. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Pizza Delivery.

Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown. Schweinland-Pfalz's national animal is the Warthog, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Reichshaxe.

That was a wise decision!

My drones are rigging the skyscrapers in S-P with demolition charges as we speak. All Schwein-Air Boeing 737s are also being equipped with flash-upon-impact nose cone devices, strange looking pods and Arab passports.

My nation and Semler's nations both have very small governments. That's the way to be. We don't need no goddamned taxes!

Of course, mine is oddly left wing, when most leftist governments within this game tend to be very large in size and with high tax rates(often 100%!).
