$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I') wouldn't worry about whether it's right or wrong. There will NEVER be an "oil crisis" barring major disasters no matter what the liberals will tell you.

The other posters are correct. When the demand outstrips supply, and prices begin to increase to prohibitive levels, then and only then will we find a cheap energy source. Throwing billions and billions of government dollars into research before that point happens won't do anything because nobody'd be motivated to find a solution until then.

The free market will see that we will always have cheap energy, oil or not. Period.

In fact, the quickest way to find an alternative to oil is to get a SUV and guzzle up all the oil first.

Oh man what a laugh. I love it. The free market will see that we will always have cheap energy, oil or not. Period.

Maybe he's right, though. Energy will be cheap in the stone age. Whatever wood you can find lying around. But I doubt we'd have a market in the current sense of the word.

Just replace "market" with "God" when these guys talk, and you are smack bang back into the middle ages, complete with a flat earth and everything.

That's pretty much like saying that any famine is solved when food prices go high enough. Tell that to Ethiopians.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')f we can develop the technology to economically develop tar sands and shale oil we will have enough oil for 500 years.

Wow, talk about a cornucopian. 500 years of oil left?

Anyone who believes in 500 more years of exponential growth is possible is an absolute nut.

Whats gonna happen to these folk when reality slaps them upside the head. They gonna go to their graves in denial?

Well, if they acknowledged it, then it wouldn't be denial anymore, right?

I hope they taste better than they look.

AmericanEmpire, I am a real conservative so I tell you without bias that spending time at freerepublic.com is an utter waste of the precious days you have upon this earth.

The neo-conservative morons there are a cult. It you present an idea that contradicts their creed of Bush-worship, EmpireWarpath, and Faith-in-Gawd-and-His-Chosen, they will ridicule but not debate you, and then ban you if you persist. It's a cheerleading club, not a discussion forum.

Yeah, I agree there is no point in debating people that have that kind of mindset. You aren't gonna get them to think any differently.

Its just that its mindblowing to read about such ignorance as we can keep on increasing fossil fuel use for 500 more years. I've talk to people who think drilling ANWR can lead the US to energy independence.

Theres really alot of misinfomed opinions out there and its sad. People will deny that our way of life has ended even when people are living in old abandoned gas stations.

The neocons will still be worshiping Bush after he declares martial law and becomes the dictator. In fact thats probably what they want. For Bush to be in their for life.
