Unread postby Schweinshaxe » Thu 23 Feb 2006, 19:47:29

As a European with English as my second language, I'd like to start this thread in order to make things a bit clearer. I guess you'll understand what I mean... Here we go:

English -------------- > PO.com speak

Government -------- > Gubmint
Liberal --------------- > Librul
Homosexual ----------> Homersexual
Moron ---------------- > Moran
Than ------------------ >Then

Please post your own favourites!

neocon--------->evil fascist empire that controls the US and plans world domination in the middle east for the last remaining oil resources.
wshtf---------> the future(when the shit hits the fan), commonly used on the web, however, it has a special meaning on these boards.
doomerosity meter--------->some type of internal meter which measures the closeness that we are to impending doom based on the news of the day.
tin foil hat-------->Gold bugs wear this, I think it somehow gives them economic insight that cannot be perceived otherwise.
dieoff----------->what happens to people who don't know how to live off the land.
EOREI----------->If your returns are not more than your inputs, you leave the thing to rot.
"way of life"----------->Strangely perceived concept that US citizens have to right to drive SUVs.
SUV-------->future home.
"that is so ghawar"----------->That is old news and is past it's peak of importance. (Sorry, I just made this one up, I hope it catches on) :-D

Well I have no choice. As a European "intillectual" I have to spell words correctly. Now eat this:

Colour
Honour
Centre
Programme
Tyre
Manoeuvre
Theatre
Analogue
Bajskorv

TEOTWAKI- the end of the world as we know it, otherwise known as wtshtf

Die-off- Population explosion of last 100 years about to come to a rapid and abrupt hault and fall off due to resource depletion and global ecological damage. More simply- oil is the sugar and we are the bacteria. "I need sugar mama!"

Iranian Oil Bourse- or IOB- for some the coming IOB=TEOTWAKI, for others the idea that IOB=TEOTWAKI is Tinfoil hat, but we've been talking about it for a while and its getting a bit Ghawar.

Cornucopian- After oil starts running out, we will be able to replace our energy needs with nuclear, coal and renewables and life will proceed as fantastically as ever before.

Doomer- After oil starts running out, no renewables will be able to meet our energy needs. Die-off will commence. Time to run to the hills. See bug out.

EV- Electric Vehicle= Cornucopian Pipedream or CP as I like to call it.

Breeder Reactors- Nuclear plants that can last hundreds of times longer than regular fission reactors due to reprocessing fuel. Please see EV.

Bugout- Doomer's fantasy that we can escape to the hills to grow organic kale and live sustainably while civilization collapses around us.

Goldbug- WTSHTF and after TEOTWAWKI, we will barter little chips of shiny metal for windmill propellers and mules.

Supply- the amount of goods available- in this context usually referring to oil/gas

Demand- China/India

Hubbert's Peak- What goes up must come down.

APSO- Look out mama, the train is about to derail.

Hirsch Report- Shoulda done something about this a long time ago.

Ehhrrr...

Just a question. Take a look at this: "Jesus H Christ".

What does the 'H' really mean? I'm kinda coming down from a week of ""knocking down the adult beverages" (Copyright - PMS) hardcore style. I'm too tired to Google.

Enlighten me!

It is like this...

The H stands for Harold, God named his son Jesus, but Mrs. God wanted Jesus to have God's first name as their offspring's middle name..ya with me?

That is where..Our Father, who art in heaven, Harold be thy name came from.

Thuja,

Those were great :-D Strange how we all speak the same language after reading these threads. This should almost be in a newbie thread to get others up to speed. The IOB is funny concerning the ghawar comment, do you know I set an entire evening aside to read that thread between Petrodollar and Mr. Bill. It was the equivalent to standing in line for tickets to your favorite movie, I was very disappointed in the ending and the movie ran a bit long. It was hilarious when petrodollar finally revealed himself as William Clarke, that was my favorite part of the movie.

Anyways, here are some more:

Unfriendly nation------------>Nations that don't fork over their resources to the US
alternative energy----------->failed attempts
Global warming-------------->"a hippie treehugger lie" according to Exxon
terrorist---------------->someone who jacks up the price of oil.
oil contract trader----->someone who waits for hurricanes and terrorists to make a profit.
depletion rate---------->a true measurement of the agony we will all feel, not to be confused with doomerosity meter.
exponential growth---->an escalator that turns into a cliff, straight down.

enjoy

Jesus Harold Christ?

Fuck! Harold Lloyd was kinda funny when he did the skyscraper clock ting but I doubt that's what we're talking about here.

How much does it cost to convert to Islam? Can I still confess to the metric system as a Bin Laden follower? Does Allah take Visa or Mastercard?
