$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')f I had dogs, I would probably just turn them loose. I figure they deserve a fighting chance at survival as much as anyone.

Idiots cause most of the problems in society. Give them a fighting chance at what?, people? native fauna?. If you can't afford dog food, put the dog down.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ayoob', 'A')s long as you can feed them, keep the dogs. If you can't, kill the dogs.

I agree with this. But putting down a pet compassionately is one thing, turning him into corgi ala king is another.

Am curious what dukats pic was now, people are so easy to offend. I wouldn't eat dog, too much chance of parasites and accumulated toxins (them being high up the food chain).

My old man would quietly dispatch any cats that came into our yard and bury them by a tree (he loved the native birds), which i hope to improve on by suspending the corpses in wire above my chicken run. Corpse = flies = maggots, which after eating their fill drop to the ground to .. feed the chickens. Only prob is smell might draw foxes.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('dukat', 'P')eople keep chickens as pets but still eat them.

I don't know if you've ever been around a live chicken, but there's a world of difference between a chicken and a dog. Chickens are stupid, even by bird standards. Dogs have co-evolved with humans for at least 50,000 years to be our companions and to work with us.
Eating your dog would be like whittling down your shovel to make toothpicks or eating seed corn rather than planting it. It's shortsighted and stupid.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Laughs_Last', 'G')o kill and eat your neighbors dog, not your own.

I agree with this. I've actually eaten dog. It's a bit fatty and slightly...well...doggy, but not bad overall. It's one of the sacred foods of the Lakota. Part of why it's sacred is that dogs are really usefull to have around, so it was a really big deal to kill one. No way I'd eat my dog unless I was within a couple of weeks of starvation. She is just a pup now, but Australian Sheppards are renowned for their abilities as gaurdians, rodent killers, and herders. Much more usefull alive than in soup. As for the feral dogs. What can I say. Ummmm...spare ribs! [smilie=laughing4.gif]

I wouldn't eat a dog or cat but I would eat one if it was minced/ground up like beef and on a burger. I didn't think I would have eaten a Guinea Pig before but darn it, they look tasty, I'm quite hungry now.

You know where Guinea Pigs came from right? They were raised by the Inca's as a food animal.

Back when the arm waving over y2k was in full force, when asked about my preps I would smile and point to my three dogs. Dressed out and smoked they would come to maybe 100 lbs.

Seriously though, eating my dogs would be a last resort option, and if I ever get there, life will have gotten very tough indeed.

I suspect the poll would shift to 98% "yes" after a couple weeks of real hunger, and that doesn't even take much of my usual heavy dose of pragmatisim/cynicism to get to that number.

A lot of people forget that dogs are animals, not people.

Case in point: Look at the french girl who just got a face transplant because she took a bunch of sleeping pills, then her wonderful pet started licking her face, probably got a little taste of blood out of a popped zit or something, then headed off to snack time!

You think your pet licks your face out of love and affection?

HAH!

It's because you taste good!

Back to the serious side briefly. Isn't the face licking thing attached to the idea that you are the alpha dog returning from the hunt and the "puppies" are checking out the menu hoping you are going to puke up a snack?

Any dog experts want to comment on this?
Stop filling dumpsters, as much as you possibly can, and everything will get better.

Just think it through.

Yeah I know dogs are like that. When I'm standing my dog is nice and respectful to me, but if I lay on the floor and the dog is near, he will start to bite me until I stand up and yell at him. I guess dogs make very successful self portable units of foods. If you were going to choose to eat something, you would want that food to follow you until your ready to eat, much better than hauling food yourself in a packback or something. It's funny why I never didn't think of this before, but if animals can walk, why do we haul them to markets with trucks, why not train them to walk to the market instead and can eat grass from the side of the road while traveling. For longer distances, attach a GPS device to their heads which zaps them whenever they stray off course. I'm joking quite abit, but still it is possible.
