What forums?

She needs to be sent the Bartlett lecture.....

Or perhaps TPTB should heed her message. Put prices up. Tremendously ;)

I read that link (waiting for her to reveal that she was speaking with sarcasm or irony.... nope) and am now very slightly older and very slightly dumber for the experience. Yep, that's how a "soccer mom" will respond to peak oil. God help us. Fox News and Rush Limbaugh stand ready to assure her that she is correct, and that her way of life is non-negotiable.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '

I'm not opposed to walking; I'm opposed to wasting time. I know, I know, exercise isn't a "waste of time," blah, blah.

I guess the American Heart Association are a bunch of idiots ....
They have been telling people that a green diet, an active lifestyle (quit ridding the elevators walking etc) and oil (of the vegetable/olive variety) are good for you. Methinks she is on her way to a heart attack, and I just had chest pain from reading her rant. 8O

She's had a very long career writing just this kind of nonsense about just about everything.

If peak oil happens, she'll blame environmentalists, not herself.

If there's a better example of someone who represents America's "addiction to oil" I don't know who it is. Too bad she's so glib about it.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'S')o, hundreds if not thousands of years from now, if oil becomes too scarce and/or too expensive to extract, man's mind will come up with something else instead.

In fact, some of the greatest oil or oil-extraction discoveries in the last 50 years have happened when prices spiked, producing a need and an economic incentive to "dig deeper," so to speak.

It is great that our society is protected by brilliant minds like this. I wonder what important questions her great mind is pondering with the spare time generated by the 30 second school drives.

How safe I feel about the future because the opinion-makers of our generation are such towering pillars of intellect and integrity.

I believe she said 30 second walk .... which means that it takes her at least 5-10 minutes to drive there (in a Hummer) 8O :P  :) :-D :-D

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he one thing that will cause me to cut back on my energy use is price. High prices are the most efficient way for the market to ration and produce viable alternatives to anything, which is why high prices shouldn't be artificially avoided (or imposed, for that matter), especially when it comes to energy.

She did get one thing right. Price is the ONLY way to encourage conservation in this country. Sure, I conserve and so do most folks on here. But we're a different breed than people like her. We care about the future to some extent.

She cares about having her air conditioner "set on stun" in the summer. And not "wasting time" walking anywhere.

Fine and dandy. Higher prices she wants, higher prices she is going to get.

Evidently her income is somewhat above average, so she'll be one of the last ones to feel the pinch. I'm already feeling it thank you very much.

Arrogant bitch.

I think her article really articulates the views of most economists and suburban dwellers in denial.

As Roy said, the only thing she got right was that prices are the only thing that encourage conservation, and the rest of the nonsensical bullshit she's spouting off about explains exactly why.

She thinks of everything in the here and now. Everything is about "efficiency." Driving one minute to Starbucks is more efficient than walking there in 10 minutes. Great. What's she doing with all the time she's saved? Probably sitting her ass on the couch watching television and eating cheese doodles. Or alternatively, working out in the gym working off all the cheese doodles she ate so her ass doesn't get too big.

But that's efficiency! It increases cheese doodle consumption. It increases television viewship, and thus advertising dollars. And it increases the profits of all the gyms too! So many ways to work more money into the economy. Ain't it great?

Reading stuff like this really makes me fear for the future. If this were a rant of some typical suburban housewife it would be one thing. But it's not. She's a columnist. She has an audience. People listen to her because she's an "expert," and also, more importantly, she tells them what they want to hear and what they already believe.

Can any of you picture this woman or anyone like her admitting we have a serious natural problem with oil production when we hit the peak? I sure can't. Not to worry though. According to her that day wont be for another few thousand years. And when it does come, we'll figure something out! We always do....

When TSHF this woman is going to be running around in circles pulling her hair out, drooling and pissing down her leg. She will be utterly unable to cope.

I'm sorry to say this, I'm not normally judgemental, but she's a drone with a pull string and the noises she makes will only encode properly on other drones with pull strings. I think they grow these in vats.
