$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ashurbanipal', 'I')t would seem to me that the point should be that NO ONE ought to be arrested or asked to leave for wearing a T-shirt.

What?! At a black tie event you think its ok to wear a fuckin T-SHIRT?!

Find an upscale restaraunt and wear pants and a t-shirt and see what happens. Find a stated "Black tie" event and wear pants and a t-shirt and see what happens.

I read that it's against the law to display political slogans in the House chamber. Is that true ?

Sorry,

Wearing a t-shirt event to such a "dress up" event does not warrant detention by the state, and even less criminal charges.

Dosen't this soundlike RUSSIA before Glassnot?

When the NRA t-Shirts come to represent "a disturbance" what will you say then?

Wow. A person can be arrested and jailed for wearing a t-shirt. I didn't realize that was a crime in the USA. We better check our closets.

More than 1,000 years ago in 971 A.D. the Muslim faith split into Sunni's and Shiite's. Just like Catholics and Protestants, they have been fighting ever since.

Cindy Sheehan should be filled with pride that her son died helping the Shiite rulers in Iraq fight off the Sunni insurgents.

Never mind that the Shiites control Iran. In Iraq, they are the good guys.

Cindy should be proud her kid was able to give his life in this 1,000 year-old holy war. She must be crazy for not being filled with pride.

The difference being that, last I checked, the State of the Union speech is held on public property. Getting kicked out of an upscale restaurant is legal because it's someone else's property. If Shehan had started yelling out obscenities, that's one thing. But wearing a T-shirt? It becomes quite clear that free speech is circumscribed.

I suppose you'd prefer no laws and complete anarchy right?

The law states no political "advertising" in the House. Whats so fucking hard about that to understand? She wore a political shirt, she was asked to leave. Another lady also wore a political shirt, one I might add which SUPPORTED our troops and the war and Bush, and was also asked to leave.

But God forbid we uphold our laws. To do so makes us facists right? Fuck the speed limit, to hell with taxes. Forget murder and rape. Should just be a big free for all country right?

If I am not mistaken there was a similar situation during one on President Clinton's speeches. Bashing Bush for this is silly, the woman broke standing rules and was removed period.

Oh no, thats completely wrong.
See, if BUSH follows the rules, then its facist. Under any other Administration its just following laws, but if Bush does it its facism.

See how that works??

Me either.......

I bet she knew what she was doing: arrest over the t-shirt fiasco would garner her more publicity than simply being in attendance. Call the place stuffy, anachronistic, etc., but there are long-standing rules of decorum that everyone should observe. There is a time and place to protest and in the house chamber during the President's SOTU speech is not one of them. I felt it was in poor taste.

Wearing a T-shirt wont get you detained either, regardless of the event.
Yes, you *could* get away with wearing a T-shirt to the SOTU speech if you wanted to, although you'd look like a peice of shit with to taste..
But dont have political slogans on it.

And no, it doesnt sound like Russia. It sounds like the law was upheld, and followed according to procedure.

Bush needs to be criticized openly and frequently. The irony of people being arrested for wearing t-shirts and "roughed up" as Bush boasts about defending freedom is just another example of the rampant hipocrisy of the Bush administration.

Ok, here is my logic. Cindy has the right to speak her mind even I do not agree with it-she still has that right. I think the State of The Union is a innapropiate place to spout her views. If she wants to control the agenda of the State of the Union Great! Run for President and you can take up the entire hour to talk about whatever you want. I think if she camped outside the cameras would have given her airtime.

Imagine if the roles were revesed and it's 1999, would it be inappropriate for Kathleen Wiley or Paula Jones to show up at a State of the Union with T-shirts that state "Hands Off my Goodies Bill!"? Or what if they unfurled a banner with a webster's definition of what the word "Is' means? I think if we allowed that disruption to whomever is in office it would just lower the the respect of Americans and their President to the eyes of the world. This is a road I do not think we should go down even if Hillary or Nader were president.

At what point in society have we as Americans decided that more is accomplished by incivility and in your face attitude? As a student of the art of negotiation anytime I see the other party get uncivil or emotional I know they are finished. In that state the emotional party is the most pliable and easier to manipulate.

This lady has handlers pulling her strings, I'd like to see who they are.

Wrong.

The House Chaimber is EXACTLY the place to voice concerns.

Especialy in such PASSIVE protest as a print on an article of clothing.

Rosa Parks arrest was also Coordinated, does that make her wrong?

If the Rule is WRONG it needs modification for all. Rules are only good so long as they serve a higher puropse.

Wrong is Wrong no matter which party. Wrong on Iraq, and a dollar short for PO. A presidente' with the IQ of Briar Rabbit on speed, and some very scary characters in control.
