Freedom carries its own version of security.

I'd prefer to follow the advice of this nation's founders. Freedom it is.

I'd rather have total out of control chaos and anarchy than a police state.

But which one do you think the sheep will choose when things fall apart? Security for their families or freedom?

No amount of security will keep gas in the Suburbans. :)

That being said, I'll take freedom over a police state anyday. IMHO, terrorists and police states are flip sides of the same coin, though one uses the auspices of law to enforce their will. Much more dangerous than terrorists, if you ask me...

I think even that dicotomy is fictitious. There is no such thing as total safety. It just doesn't exist. Uncle Sam can lock you in a padded room and take away your shoe laces. If you are determined enough you are still going to find a way to hurt yourself. You can take away all the guns and knives and bats and install metal detectors on every street corner. Sooner or later someone is going to snap and stab someone to death with an ink pen. If we were getting something back for giving up our freedom, then maybe you could at least argue that it was worthwhile. The truth is that we're giving up freedom for a fiction...something that can never exist.

I don't think the world is black and white. There's lots of gray areas and the ideal would probably be mostly freedom and as much security as said freedom will allow.

there are two doors in life; one is marked security, the other freedom...chose the one marked security and you lose both.

I don't buy that. To reduce the complex realities of life to two choices is preposterous.
